View Full Version : THE FLYING NUN DVD TEXACO 09-21-2007, 10:33 PM I SAW BOTH SEASONS OF THE FLYING NUN ON DVD.I WAS WONDERING WHEN WILL SONY RELEASE THE THIRD AND FINAL SEASON OF THE SERIES .IF ANYONE KNOWS ,PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I JUST LOVE SALLY FIELD AS SISTER BERTRILLE.:) TV Knowledge Fan 10-02-2007, 04:07 PM ...on how many volumes of seasons one and two were sold, 'TEXACO'. If Sony feels there weren't enough "box sets" purchased, they might delay release of season three for an indefinite period....to them, it's a matter of "more than breaking even", I'm sorry to say. They're in it strictly for the money. :tv: Lee G 02-07-2008, 12:14 PM On the first two seasons DVD, except for the pilot the episodes begin with the opening credits. But I have seen syndicated airings of the episodes and those begin with the opening scene and THEN come the opening credits. I assume how the episodes are presented on the DVD's is the way they originally aired on ABC, I'm not sure though so I'll leave the question open for someone who can verify for certain. Jude The Obscure 02-10-2008, 01:27 AM Wasn't it a trend for all Screen Gems shows to have an opening scene, then the title sequence? Look at Bewitched, Jeannie, Hazel, Gidget, etc. Lee G 02-11-2008, 11:41 AM Wasn't it a trend for all Screen Gems shows to have an opening scene, then the title sequence? Look at Bewitched, Jeannie, Hazel, Gidget, etc. That's true, but on the DVD's from Sony the episodes except for the pilot start with the opening credits. I don't know if The Flying Nun originally aired this way with the opening credits first, as I posted earlier I have seen syndicated airings and those start with the opening scene and THEN come the opening credits. Nothing is missing on the DVD episodes, but for whatever reason it seems that they flip flopped the opening scene and opening credits, putting the opening credits first. Jude The Obscure 04-01-2008, 01:18 AM Ahhhh! wonder why they did that? in any case, they need to just release season 3 and be done with it. It's not like the show has 5 more seasons to go through. Lee G 04-01-2008, 10:54 AM I think Sony may have given up on this show, and the season three DVD won't see the light of day. And it seems they have given up on All In The Family as well. Season seven should be out by now. Another one is the last season of Jeannie, they are supposed to come out with that one but haven't made an announcement yet. Robert 13 05-16-2008, 11:59 AM Sony needs a major overhaul. Whoever is head of the tv-on-dvd department should be replaced with someone who is actually working on projects. Apparently, home video sales for Sony were down 11% last year. Should that come as a surprise considering they didn't release much last year?! And you're right... where is All In The Family? A landmark show that is still not complete on dvd!?!? One more season of The Flying Nun and it's not out yet. They could have that series completed. I Dream Of Jeannie is coming though. But they really need to work on getting more out. There are too many shows awaiting follow-up seasons. Jude The Obscure 05-16-2008, 09:37 PM Sony is lousy on TV DVDs! ansara1 05-19-2008, 10:35 AM Someone said Sally Field went on talk shows promoting The Flying Nun and Gidget. I'm very surprised considering her attitude about The Flying Nun. I never understood why she was so embarassed by The Flying Nun but yet not too many years later did Smokey and the Bandit...not exactly Spakespear. My question is, since she made the talk show rounds, did she participate in doing any commentary on The Flying Nun or Gidget? If so, was she flattering to either show? What did she have to say? Jude The Obscure 05-20-2008, 08:17 PM She does commentary on the Gidget set and she is very positive in talking about her experience on Gidget. It's a great extra--considering how big a star she has become since then and usually those stars with humble TV beginnings often try to distance themselves. ansara1 05-21-2008, 11:31 AM Thanks:) Do you know if she does anything for The Flying Nun? Jude The Obscure 05-22-2008, 02:57 PM I haven't seen The Flying Nun on DVD. I may buy it one day, but it's not a priority show. Maybe LeeG would know. gidgetgrape 07-16-2008, 02:04 PM Thanks:) Do you know if she does anything for The Flying Nun? Sally Field did a featurette for Season One. There aren't any featurettes on Season Two. comedyfreak 07-17-2008, 04:29 AM Someone said Sally Field went on talk shows promoting The Flying Nun and Gidget. She did commentary on Gidget and spoke very highly of the cast. When it came to the Flying Nun dvd, it was not a good time in her life. I take it she was made fun of to the point that she wanted nothing to do with her character. Her step-father talked her into doing the part, after she had turned it down. Madelyn Sherwood, who played the Reverend Mother was on her side when she needed someone in her corner when it came to dealing with producers. The commentaries for both shows were really good. I'd like to meet Sally in person and thank her for doing The Flying Nun. Lee G 01-02-2009, 11:43 PM I haven't seen The Flying Nun on DVD. I may buy it one day, but it's not a priority show. Maybe LeeG would know. For fans of 60's sitcoms, I recommend The Flying Nun DVD's. Episodes seem to be uncut, they are beautifully restored with sharp picture and vivid colors. There is a high nostalgic value to this series and the episodes entertain for the most part. The one thing I question is what I mentioned here earlier, the DVD episodes start with the opening credits first and then comes the opening scene. I'm not 100 percent positive, but I think it should be the other way around with the opening scene first and then the opening credits. catlover79 01-03-2009, 12:17 AM I have a special reason for wanting to see Season 3 come to DVD - Gregory Sierra (:eyes:) guested 4 times!! Lee G 01-03-2009, 11:25 AM I just want the 3rd season to come out so I can complete the series collection. There was about a 3 year wait between The Partridge Family seasons 2 and 3, I think the delay might have been because they had to clear all rights to the music before they could proceed. Partridge Family season 4 has now been announced as well. I don't know what's causing the delay for Flying Nun season 3, perhaps there are some music rights issues also and it could also be the first two seasons were not big sellers and they are reluctant to put the third one out. Whatever it is, hopefully 2009 will see The Flying Nun season 3 on DVD. cajunhillbilly 01-11-2009, 09:07 AM I too hope season 3 finally gets released. Now that season 3 and 4 of The Partridge Family is out, Sony will start releasing the stalled series again, like The Flying Nun and Hazel, season 2. Robert 13 05-04-2009, 04:25 PM Well, they have just announced the final season of "Bewitched". So, hopefully, more of the stalled series will be worked on now. I really want Season 3 of "The Flying Nun" soon. :) |
