If "Saturday Night Live" ended it's run in 1980 once Lorne Michaels left (originally) as well as the original cast, how do you think the show would be remembered today?

It seems like no channels ever rerun the 70s SNL. For years Comedy Central reran the 1980s and 1990s and now E! seems to only rerun the 2000s reruns.

I'm glad the show continues because some great talents have come out of that show after the original cast left (Phil Hartman, Mike Myers, Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, David Spade, Will Ferrell, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, etc.) However, there was something special about the originals (Dan Aykroyd, John Belushi, Chevy Chase, Jane Curtain, Garrett Morris, Laraine Newman, Gilda Radner and Chevy's replacement Bill Murray).

So back to my original question. How would it be remembered today if it ended back in 1980? Do you think it would ever be rerun? Would the DVD season sets be coming out? What would the world have done without the "It's Pat" movie? lol

Have you noticed lately they don't even show the 80s episodes anymore?
I haven't seen any 1980-1986 episodes since the late 90s.

Actually I don't even watch reruns of this show anymore, other than the season 1 DVD set. I was really into this show during the early 90s, though.

I wonder if they have different packages for this show, for the channel to air. Because, they can't show all 33 (or whatever) seasons in reruns together. Still, I figured they'd rerun the first five years more, on like TV Land or someplace.

they should have ended it when Eddie Murphy left, IMHO

I love SNL. I've only seen the 70's and 80's shows though. And a little of Will Ferrell's stuff.

It would be just like SCTV -- a cult show with a small devoted following, but little else.

Anyway, I'm no Brit-nut, but in this case Monty Python did it wa-a-a-y better.
