If the pilot for a show isn't very good, do you immediately stop watching it? How many episodes do you give a show to hook you in?

If I hate a pilot I'll usually stop right then....sometimes I'll give it another episode to see if it's any better but I wouldn't go beyond then.

I usually never bother with a show if it's hyped to death before it airs. The last new series I actually liked was Masters of Science Fiction but Corner Gas is quickly becoming a favorite.

TJ, Solomon made the exact same thread about 2 weeks ago. You should check that out...

I'll bump the thread for you.

I'll watch the pilot plus two episodes, if I don't like it I won't watch again.

I went with 10, although I would really say anywhere from 6-10 episodes. I usually never hate a show right from the start. I always give it time, usually by Christmas if it's a current show, or a week if it's on cable.

I voted 5 because I think that's about how many eps I gave Desperate Housewives before I decided I didn't really like it. Normally if the pilot stinks, I'm not going to waste my time on a 2nd. If it's ok, I may watch a few more.

That is very annoying. I'm tired of the ad for The Big Bang Theory. Air the show already! Geez.

Agreed, The Big Bang Theory is one show I won't bother with. They hype is about as bad as what CBS gave South of Sunset back in 1993 and it was canned after the first episode. Another reason I won't be watching TBBH is because I saw a promo photo for the show that showed 5 of the characters eating chinese. All were right handed, all were eating from the same type of box and to make matters worse, All were using chopsticks. Why is it that when a tv character eats chinese food, They always have to use friggin chopsticks?

Usually 4-5 episodes if it's a sitcom, 1-2 for dramas.

Usually i'll give a show 2 episodes before i give up on it; unless there's a star in it that i like than i'll typically give it an entire season to grab me before i give up. Like last season even though the pilot sucked i gave CBS'S "The Class" the entire season and eventually started to like it because it had Jason Ritter in it...

I hear all of that. I agree.

I usually give a show ONE chance to give me a reason to try and keep me as a viewer. Hell, I used to be a Prison Break fan til they kept putting the damn show on hiatus. I got tired of waiting.

I usually don't watch TV shows when they first air. I tend to start watching them a season or two after they originally start airing.

i can usually tell if ill like a show after the frist ep, but, i usually give it 3 ( 3 strikes and youre out )...my exception to this was Mythbusters which i tried and dismissed several times until my brother got me into it when i was over his place and Disc was having a marathon of the show

Corner Gas is definitely a show that made me an instant viewer from one showing. It is rare when a show can be that great in one episode. The first episode was a 10+ on a scale of 1-10. We definitely need more shows like this.
