...ads in which, time and time again, they portray the guy in a couple as this clueless idiot, and every last freakin time the woman "outsmarts" him in whatever method the advertisement requires. Every time I see one of these ads it drives me up the wall.

My uncle, like you, is tired of those ads too. In fact, he's also tired of T.V shows that show the same thing(Cosby, Roseanne....).

It's funny the first three times, but after the fourth, it's not so funny.

Cosby show is the worst! Each man in that house has no back-bone.

I rarely watch commercials, so I am not sure what ads you are talking abt Seth.

The early couple of seasons weren't as bad about it, but Claire became more and more domineering as the show went on it seemed, while Cliff seemed to degenerate into self-parody by the end.

I wholeheartedly agree with you Seth, these commercials make me want to throw something at the screen, the problem is, the main holders of the pursestrings, in most houses, are the women. These commercials are aimed at them. Some years ago, it was found that the best way to get a commercial message across was to do it with humour, and , whats funnier to women, than totally clueless men? I guess were stuck with it, at least until women begin to complain about ads that make men look like morons! (What about it girls??? ;) )

Basically any of those ads with the guy facing some kind of problem he cant handle and he yells "HONEY!!!???" And his wife shows up with w/e product that will do the job fast and efficiently while the man stands there looking like a total idiot...TV is FULL of them!

I don't watch commercials. I always change the channel. Or I walk away from the television. The only time a commercial catches my eye is when my boyfriend is watching the tv and he will tell me, "Look at this commercial." Or when he is watching television and he has the remote in his hands, at that point, he is in control of the tv and he doesn't change it during commercials.

I hate those commercials as well. To me its just more feminist bullsh*t of trying to make women look better then men. Sadly a lot of women treat men like that.. and it's disgusting.

(((is glad her man is not like those on TV)))

My hubby feels the same way Seth and I can't say that I disagree. I don't really notice it too much in commercials but in some sitcoms. King of Queen and Everybody Loves Raymond were always making the husbands seem like bumbling idiots and the woman being all knowing and without fault.

Deffinately Clare, and who would accept it if they did that now? The point being it was wrong to portray women that way, and its no less wrong to portray men as such. (Two wrongs dont make a right)

Speaking of Claire's , I love Claire Huxtable for being a professional woman, especially in a field that I love, however her constant "know-it-all" attitude just rubbed me the wrong way. Ok, we know she is smart, but so was her husband, for God's sake, he was a doctor. Yes, it was just a tv show, but the whole Cosby issue was to give primetime a sitcom that was supposed to show us a black family that wasn't poor, wasn't a single-parent home, etc. Great. But please, Cliff and the rest of the men looked like buffoons.

Watch a daytime soap sometime - many of the men are dumber than a box of rocks. One of the main reasons I stopped watching soaps! (Besides the fact I work full-time and not one was even worth recording anymore).

All My Children in the 80's was awesome. Those were MEN! And they had some of the greatest storylines. I haven't seen a soap opera since 1989. So I can't say how the soaps are now.

Now, DALLAS had some great men too. J.R. Ewing, Bobby Ewing and Jock Ewing. Whoo.
