View Full Version : Which would you choose to see more of: better cartoons or better sitcoms
waichingliu81 09-19-2007, 07:30 PM let's face it, both tv genres haven't had the best of times in recent years but if you had the option to choose, which would you prefer and like to see more of on tv: good cartoon shows that appeal to all generations, not just today's kids but for us as well, or good quality american sitcoms, just like in the 50s right up to the 90s?
DOPEY85xxx 09-19-2007, 08:02 PM Personally I would like to see a balance of both its obvious both cartoons and sitcoms have not been the best lately and moving away from familiy values . Some violence and sex activities would stop if television shows were more focsed on programming everyone enjoys. Off rant lol.
Corolla 09-19-2007, 08:10 PM I like sitcoms. :)
waichingliu81 09-19-2007, 08:16 PM i hate todays cartoons they sure as hell suck. i am not a fan of the adult based ones such as king of the hill and family guy and what about the crap that is aired on cartoon network right now? what the hell is that?
though of course cartoon network was once owned by hanna barbera, of whom a few years ago decided to no longer produce and air cartoons and so they folded in the end. a massive blow to the animation industry no doubt.
as for the sitcom, well just like the cartoon, standards have deteriorated in the last 5 or 6 years ago. its sad to see them in the state that they are in right now because american sitcoms and cartoons are my favourite genres of tv shows, overall
Mikado 09-19-2007, 09:10 PM I copped out and voted both, but, what i think i really want is more comedic ANIME....I dont care much for this trend to fighting or "emo" anime characters, Give me Ranma 1/2, Ah My Goddess, Kimagure Orange Road, Urusei Yatsura or Maison Ikkoku anyday!
The cast of Urusei Yatsura
GoldenGirlsFan92 09-19-2007, 09:18 PM Sitcoms.
freshprinceofLA 09-19-2007, 09:46 PM Sitcoms. I haven't really seen a decent sitcom probably since 8 simple rules left the air. I don't really watch cartoons much. The only cartoons I pretty much watch are the simpsons and family guy.
catlover79 09-19-2007, 09:48 PM BETTER SITCOMS!!
icecream 09-19-2007, 09:51 PM sitcoms
I couldn't care less about cartoons.

If you have WGN, try Corner Gas, you wont be disappointed!
OH Nuts! 09-19-2007, 10:51 PM Better sitcoms. I almost never watch cartoons--even the Simpsons.
Mr. Television 09-19-2007, 10:56 PM sitcoms
comedyfreak 09-20-2007, 05:49 AM I'd like to see better of both.
waichingliu81 09-20-2007, 06:15 AM i don't go along with the idea that cartoons should be for kids only. they should appeal to all generations- although i never liked king of the hill and family guy. those are like cartoons mainly aimed at adults but without all the charm, beauty and innocence of the hanna barbera, warner bros, disney's 40s-early 90s cartoons. they are adult orientated and the humour in those shows are adult orientated. plus, those types of cartoon shows alongside the crap on cartoon network, such as ed, edd and eddy don't teach kids about morals and standards, whilst at the same time retaining a level of excitement and fun. the simpsons is an exception to this because it is a family show and the humour is suitable for people of all ages. adults like us can enjoy cartoons just as much as the children of today.
if you compare the likes of king of the hill, family guy, american dad for eg with say thundercats, alvin and the chipmunks, the flintstones, tom and jerry, inspector gadget and transformers, hell they don't even come close to rivalling them and even if there was a battle between modern day cartoons to the classics, the classics will always kick the modern day cartoons ass- period
I'd prefer better sitcoms, I don't watch many cartoons or animated shows. Now my son likes the Simpsons, King Of The Hill and Family Guy so he'd probably vote the opposite of me. lol!
waichingliu81 09-20-2007, 05:09 PM kids tv today is in the worse ever state compared to 20, 40 years ago. the problem with the producers of cartoons today is that are feeding today's generation with nothing but junk. all i can say is that this generation of kids haven't sampled real, quality cartoons. cartoons of which say something about morals, respect and of fun which have originality, written all over it. those born and of whom were around during the 60s, 70s, 80s- we all got to see wonderful animation shows and the best the US had to offer in this department. but nowadays, with the modern day cartoons on tv today, almost all of them are pure garbage and unwatchable
