A WOMAN who got engaged and married on her birthday has died on the same date.
Moira Brodie was born on 16 September, 1938. She got engaged on 16 September, 1959, married husband Peter exactly two years later and died on 16 September, 2007.
Yesterday, her family said the date would always be their mother's "special day".
Her son, Keith Brodie, of Dundee, said: "We won't think of September 16 as the day Mum died.
" It was the day she was born, it was the day she got engaged and the day she got married.
"She had been ill for a long time before she died.
"When we knew the end was near, I said to my wife about a month ago, 'I know what day she will slip away.'
"It was a pivotal day in her life. She died in the early hours of 16 September."
Mrs Brodie, of Fintry, Dundee, died on Sunday, aged 69, after seven years' battling breast cancer.
After meeting her husband on a village bus, the couple got engaged just as he prepared to join the RAF for national service. They married two years later, before going on to have two children, Keith, 43, and Morven, 36.
Her son said yesterday: "I think my mum obviously thought she would make things easy for my dad.
"Instead of having to remember her birthday, a different wedding anniversary and the anniversary of when they got engaged, she rolled them all into one.
"There is something comforting about the fact that was also the day she died."
Mrs Brodie's daughter added: "She was a cherished wife, a treasured mum and a proud and loving granny.
"The family joke is that my dad's memory is so bad she had to have everything on the one day so he would remember it.
"When we realised there was a chance she would die on 16 September, we just knew that would be the day.
"My dad is devastated by her death - she was his soulmate - but even he has a smile that she picked her own special day to pass on.
"Now every 16 September we will think of all the happy times, and not be filled with sadness that it is the anniversary of the day she died."
