OH Nuts!

I just thought this might be a fun thread. I remember Angie and enjoyed it. The one thing I remember about the show that I thought was very cool and memorable was seeing a younger Doris Roberts before she really hit the big time with Everybody Loves Raymond, where of course she is just absolutely FABU as the buttinsky par excellance Marie Barrone.

Others??

I never really had a chance to really sample the show since i only saw 4 episodes. But the only thing I was able to see that was kind of cool was a 1979 looking Philadelphia versus 2007-lol So much has changed since then, from the Opening credits I saw that Philly had no SKYLINE

I so much preferred the home in the second season. The first home seemed too "fancy". I loved the fact that Doris played the mother in this show. I couldn't help but think of ANGIE when Everybody Loves Raymond first aired and I seen that Doris was going to be a regular. She has always striked me as a "real" mother. You know what I mean? She is someone you can relate to and she really brings out her characters.

The young actress, Tammy Lauren, I believe was removed from the cast for the second season. I was glad when they did that, I couldn't stand the character and felt she was not needed at all.

Why did they move into a new house in season 2?

I can't recall the details. But the first house looked to fake to me, it was just "too much". I think they were just trying to play up the angle of the "rich doctor" and his "wife who grew up poor".

I've never seen the show (it premiered the year I was born), but I HAVE heard the great theme song performed by Maureen McGovern. Robert Hays made Airplane right around this time, I believe. I'd like to see the show someday and will if the opportunity ever presents itself.

I've said this in another post on here I think; but I remember back when the show first started, on ABC (I think it was on either Tuesday or Thursday) we had just moved to philly, and my brother and I used to like to name the city landmarks they showed in the opening.

I am going to go to the Paley Center (formerly Museum of Television and Radio) and see if the show is archived; if it is I'm going to go to the video library and watch an ep or two.

 Doh! I liked her. I have about six episodes from season one and two from season two. I only saw her in one eppy from season one from my collection. I wish that she was used more during the run. I hate the fact that they just removed her without any reference to her unless someone knows something that I don't know. Tammy did others guest starring roles like the role of the young hooker on "Facts" and the recurring role on "Wanda At Large". What was it about her that you could not stand Ms. Irene?

Regarding the house switch.....it was one of a few changes for season 2. Tammy's character was gone and halfway through, Angie decided to sell the coffee shop and buy a beauty salon, where her mother and sister also worked/hanged out. The house switch occurred IIRC, because Angie was never comfortable living in a mansion and she also felt her family didn't want to come over because it was just too ritzy. Brad didn't care about fancy trappings, so they bought a more modest suburban type house that also allowed Brad to have his private practice there.

What I like about Angie starts with the setting - Philadelphia. That attracted me to the series and it also made me an admirer of this great city, which I have been ever since.

Another element I like about Angie is, of course, the theme song - titled, "Different Worlds", it was a Gimbel and Fox number performed by Maureen McGovern. The single version of the song reached number 18 on the Hot 100, if my memory serves me correctly.

Finally, what I really like about Angie is that the characters became friends to me, at least, in my mind. I can still think of Angie, Brad, Joyce, Marie and Mrs. Falco, as well as Phipps, as my friends, and can even picture myself with them within the actions of series, and for someone who didn't have much interaction outside of high school (I was 16 when the series debuted), that's mighty powerful stuff.

Falco was Angie's maiden name. She married Dr. Brad Benson, so she became Angie Falco Benson.

I hear where you are coming from. I did not have much interaction out of school myself. I always wanted imagined myself friends to characters on television. I also love that theme song. The song is what drew me to the series. When I heard the disco version on disc, I had to find the show. Three years later, I found a friend that had TV Land on her lineup and got her to tape the "Family Feud" episode and finally got to she the show. I still love the song to this day.
