The baby is named Grace. This was the same name that Laura gave to the baby orphan she found in the woods that she took care of for a short while. Was there some meaning behind this name? I mean, when I seen this episode during its first run, I immediately remembered the baby Laura found and the name she gave her. I then wondered why they named the Ingall's new baby Grace.

Also, it seems Mrs. Simms was already abt 5-6 months pregnant when the episode started. Caroline had just found out she was pregnant. By the middle of the episode when Caroline visits the soothsayer, she appears to be 6 months pregnant herself, but Mrs. Simms has yet to have her baby. Any one else notice this?

Let me add, Mary was assisting Mrs. Simms with teaching the students, no doubt getting ready for when she becomes a teacher herself. I notice this is the only time Mary seems to wear her hair in a very matronly way. She wears it this way at school and at home. She didn't wear her hair this way when she was teaching at that rural school away from home when she was being harassed by Mrs. Peel.

Don't forget that the name of Mr. Edwards' wife was Grace - the Ingalls family was close with both of them. So maybe they named her after that family friend.

In real life, I have had the pleasure to meet the baby Grace twins - Brenda & Wendi Turnbaugh. They were at the Tombstone, AZ Film Festival and Little House Reunion in 2005. They are so sweet, humble and kind - and LHOP was their only acting job.

Don't forget that the name of Mr. Edwards' wife was Grace - the Ingalls family was close with both of them. So maybe they named her after that family friend.
