JulieSomoski 09-13-2007, 05:24 PM I always liked The Jeffersons better than All in the Family. Family Matters was way better than perfect Strangers. I liked Perfect Strangers, but it was boring at times for me. Same goes for Facts of Life. Much better than Diff'rent Strokes.
Laverne & Shirley (Happy Days)
Law & Order SVU (Law & Order)
Good Times (Maude)
Superbatboy 09-13-2007, 11:28 PM The Parkers (Moesha)
Skywalker 09-13-2007, 11:37 PM Benson (Soap)
Frasier (Cheers)
Mork and Mindy (Happy Days)
comedyfreak 09-14-2007, 05:39 AM Frasier-Cheers was hard to get into the characters were not as likeable as Frasier's.
BensonFan 09-15-2007, 12:58 AM Benson (Soap)
Frasier (Cheers)
I agree here. This is a major compliment to Frasier as well, because I love Cheers.
As for Soap, I did like it but the problem is going back to watch individual episodes. The storyline is so tight from episode to episode that I find it tough to just watch individual eps...you're either missing something from the previous ep and then you'll miss something from the very next ep if you don't keep tuning in. Benson was a lot of fun though and while there was some storyline there, it's not so tight where you'll be lost if you just view certain episodes. A very well-written show too.
catlover79 09-15-2007, 01:03 AM I always liked the Jeffersons better than AITF. To tell the truth, I was never a huge AITF fan to begin with, but I can tolerate it in small doses here and there.
Good Times - definitely! To me, it is a SPINOFF, no matter what the people on the GT board say!
FactoryGirl 09-15-2007, 01:04 AM I'm going to go for The Facts of Life and A Different World.
Nighthawk76 09-16-2007, 04:06 PM I always liked the Jeffersons better than AITF. To tell the truth, I was never a huge AITF fan to begin with, but I can tolerate it in small doses here and there.
:eek2: :faint:  ;)
Nighthawk76 09-16-2007, 04:09 PM Even though I still love the original Star Trek (Kirk is the man  ), The Next Generation is even better because it has better acting and is more sophisticated. And Deep Space Nine is the best of the bunch.
The Facts of Life is way better than Diff'rent Strokes, though DS us still a good show.
BensonFan 09-16-2007, 05:39 PM Good Times - definitely! To me, it is a SPINOFF, no matter what the people on the GT board say!
Ok maybe I'm having a brain cramp here, but what show did GT spin off from?
Mikado 09-16-2007, 06:01 PM I dissagree with most of these, but i do agree FOL was better than Diff Strokes.........
Green Acres was a funnier show than Petticoat Junction, which it was a spin off of
I also prefered The Day the Universe changed to its parent show, Connections!
catlover79 09-16-2007, 06:30 PM Ok maybe I'm having a brain cramp here, but what show did GT spin off from?
Maude

As Maude would say, "God'll get you for that, Lisa!!" :joke:
Mikado 09-16-2007, 06:36 PM oh i almost forgot; I prefered Fernwood Tonight, to Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
Buffyboy323 09-16-2007, 06:38 PM Maude
Oh lord...Here we go! LOL :)
BensonFan 09-16-2007, 11:55 PM As Maude would say, "God'll get you for that, Lisa!!" :joke:
Sorry...it actually wasn't a brain cramp. I confess I haven't seen all that much Maude in my life.
catlover79 09-16-2007, 11:56 PM One's take on AITF could be a generational thing (or not). I was 16 when it first premeired and to see a show that discussed controversial topics honestly and with sensitivity WAS UNHEARD OF in the early 70s--it was mindblowing to me. AITF was easily 30 yrs ahead of its time.
None of this detracts from The Jeffersons, which was a great show too.
Rich, I agree with you that TV has surely regressed since Norman Lear's heyday in the 1970s. One AITF episode I found especially touching was "Archie Is Branded" with guest star Gregory Sierra. I think I cried when I watched that episode...very powerful.
That said, I'm much more of a Good Times/Sanford & Son fan than a AITF/Maude fan when it comes to Norman Lear shows. One Day at a Time falls somewhere in the middle.
OH Nuts! 09-17-2007, 05:58 AM Definitely The Facts of Life over Diff'rent Strokes. I always thought Charlotte Rae rocked and added a huge amt. to the show. (And, BTW, she was fabu on Car 54 too.) Defintely an actress who knows how to kick things up a notch.
I always liked the Jeffersons better than AITF. To tell the truth, I was never a huge AITF fan to begin with, but I can tolerate it in small doses here and there.
Hi catlover79, this has got to be a first! We usually seem to agree pretty closely.
IMO, one's takes on AITF may be a generational thing . Let me explain. When AITF came on the air I was 16. Up to this time IT WAS UNHEARD OF for any sitcom to address controversial topics at all, and to esp. do so in a way that was forthright and sensitive. AITF was easily 25 yrs. ahead of its time--but perhaps one had to live through the 60s and 70s to have this sentiment--and have the craving for a show to come along and do what AITF did. IMO, AITF was almost or as groundbreaking as I Love Lucy. Sorry to feel so strongly abt a show, but to me AITF is one of the peaks on TV's landscape--alongside I Love Lucy, The Twilight Zone and The Tonight Show (with the urbane Johnny Carson).
(OOPS--this is a revised post. I'm still a newbie & still a little slow with the mechanics of posting everyone sorry. The next time I draft a longish post, I'm doing it in WORD & cut & pasting so only the final appears.)
USATVFAN 09-17-2007, 09:41 AM The Jeffersons And Good Times
friendsfan77 09-17-2007, 10:32 AM The Parkers (Moesha)
ITA.
I prefer Laverne & Shirley over Happy Days
AITF is a classic but I like The Jeffersons better
DOPEY85xxx 09-17-2007, 11:35 AM  The Parkers (Moesha)
FOL (Different Strokes)
ThomasE 09-17-2007, 11:00 PM Good Times over Maude
A Different World over The Cosby Show (back in the day)
Sanford over Sanford and Son
Family Matters over Perfect Strangers
Fact of Life over Different Strokes
The Jeffersons over All in the Family
And as much as I like Dallas, Knots Landing was better to me. I used to love the J.R. crossovers.
Petticoat Junction over The Beverly Hillbillies.
I like Cheers better that Fraiser
Buffyboy323 09-18-2007, 02:47 PM Does "Mama's Family" count as a spinoff? If so, I'll have to add that to my list. I liked that better than "The Carol Burnett Show."
Mikado 09-18-2007, 03:43 PM yeah Mammas Family was a spinoff of CB, but, i could NEVER prefer it over the last classic variety show
Raisingdad2004 09-18-2007, 06:17 PM I thought Frasier was better than Cheers.
Buffyboy323 09-18-2007, 06:18 PM yeah Mammas Family was a spinoff of CB, but, i could NEVER prefer it over the last classic variety show
So then that means "The Honeymooners" is a spinoff as well?
ChanandMon 09-19-2007, 02:57 PM Knots Landing > Dallas
Cheers > Fraiser
Different Strokes > Facts of Life
