I didn't expect this to arrive before Friday. I didn't expect to have to pay $30 import fees on top of $30 for shipping it. I didn't expect it to be so easy to set up and I didn't expect the box to have that much -----in' tape on it.

Anyway, my WiFlyer wireless router arrived today from J&R Music World in New York. Being sick of having cords everywhere for dialup internet and having to stay near a phone jack, I decided to spend the extra $100 and go for this. I plugged it in to the phone jack and the power and it started up immediately. Ran back to my laptop and put it my new Zonet wireless card and it loaded the internet pretty fast. Problem was, it was only connected locally to the router and not to the internet. I knew that problem immediately; the router had to know my ISP username and password so I went to the router's IP address in Internet Explorer and added all that information, including a WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy???) key and a password for the router settings to keep everything secure and to keep the neighbours with their PSPs off my connection.

So far everything's good; it still ties up the phone line and takes about 15-20 seconds to start the connection but whenever I want to use the internet I can just press the connect button on the router or go to the router's IP address and connect from the configuration page. It's great and the router works with broadband too in case, god forbid Bell would put their DSL through my street.

I should be posting more now that I can actually use the internet without dealing with the internet dialup modem of death again.

In other words, I'm back... and I better get a birthday thread on Saturday. :lol:
