This was a fun ep but was VERY SIMILAR to the long lost pilot (llp). Actually, when it got to the part where Ricky wants her to go downtown to get the wills signed, I thought I made a mistake and put in the wrong DVD by accident. (But I checked it out and didn't!). Pretty much follows the sequence of the llp except this time the clown's name is Boffo and not Pepito. The Professor schtick is cute though a tad corny and nowhere's near as funny as when she gets down on the floor and plays the "strange new instrument" like a seal and then begs for "nonexistant fish" from the empty fish pail. (and yes, another thing to add to the Funny Quotes/Moments thread--I told you that thread would be a long list!!) God she can be so funny and outrageous--especially for a show of this era. All the funny stuff from That Girl is a direct theatric paraphrase of I.L.L.--and of course I.L.L. is much funnier because Lucy is a better comedienne (no insult to Miss Thomas, who is fine), but let's face it, Lucy is the Gold Standard and.... LUCY DID IT FIRST!

The Professor routine was developed for Lucy and Desi by their friend Pepito the Clown. Before ILL, they went on the road to test whether they could work together and wanted to see the public's response. They did "Cuban Pete/Sally Sweet" and other comedic dialogue.

Often a pilot is completely seperate from the series that follows. In their case, after the pilot was made, they had to find a sponsor and that took some time.

The routines Lucy and Desi did during their Vaudeville tour were re-used throughout the first season.

I like when Ricky asks to see the Professor's credentials, and he/she blushes. Lucy and Desi did this routine so often you can see Desi mouthing some of Lucy's lines as she says them. :)

I remember seeing them both and wondering why they did the same show twice....only years later did I find out that one was the pilot, & the other a regular season show.
