40 YEARS AGO TODAY!
“It’s A Nice Place To Visit...” (http://monkeestv3.tripod.com/season2/visit.html) (prod. #47??) first aired at 7:30/6:30 Central Time on NBC as the 33rd episode of The Monkees television show. The sponsor of the week was Kellogg’s™, and the song featured was “What Am I Doing Hangin’ ‘Round?” (Murphy / Castleman).
This episode introduced The Monkees TV series' second season on The Peacock Network. “It’s A Nice Place To Visit...” was originally the ninth episode produced for The Monkees' second season, but for obvious reasons was chosen by NBC to open it.
Also on this day, 12 1/2 hours before "It's A Nice Place To Visit..." was scheduled to air, The Monkees themselves, after a long, grueling summer of touring and recording (the upcoming 4th album, Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd.), reported to Screen Gems Studio 7 in Hollywood to resume production on their television show; first on the agenda was Peter Meyerson's "Hillbilly Honeymoon" (a.k.a. "Double Barrell Shotgun Wedding").
It would be repeated on NBC December 18, 1967, making it one of only two Monkees episodes to be repeated on The Peacock Network while the first run episodes were still being aired before the summer repeat season, aside from the March 18, 1968 repeat of No. 39, "Hillbilly Honeymoon" (a.k.a. "Double Barrell Shotgun Wedding") (sponsored that week by Twiggy Lashes/Eye Paint and Londonderry Hair by Yardley Of London™). “It’s A Nice Place To Visit…” was seen only once during the Saturday Afternoon run of The Monkees: at noon (EDT) on November 22, 1969 on CBS.
(Its tag sequence, unfortunately, remains missing to this day! )
