Hi guys..
I was bored this morning so I browsed the internet movie database and
came across the birthdays for the Barney Miller cast. Some of it
surprised me! Here it is for your amusement...lol

Hal Linden turned 76 years on March 20th. He was 44 when the show
began and 52 when it ended.

Abe Vigoda is 86. He was 54 when the show began.

James Gregory(R.I.P.) was 64 when the show began and 72 when it ended.

Ron Carey (R.I.P.) was 40 when the show started and 48 when it ended (that blew me away...he certainly did not look his age!)

Gregory Sierra is 66. He was 34 when the show began and 36 when he left.

Max Gail is 64. He was 32 when the show began and 40 when it ended.

Steve Landesburg and Ron Glass are both 62 years old. Steve was born
on Nov 23, and Ron was born on July 10th. Ron was 30 when the show began
and 38 when it ended. Steve was 33 when he started the show and 38 when
it ended.

And finally, Jack Soo (may he rest in peace) was born on October 26th.
He was 59 when the show started and 63 when he died. He would have turned 91 this year.

Anyone else amazed that Nick was actually older than Fish? (And that
Levitt was in his 40's?) LOL! Just goes to show you what an amazing actor Abe Vigoda is. All the while he was playing broken down ol' Fish he was running 5 miles a day and playing tennis and raquetball!

As mentioned in another thread, Abe Vigoda's brother Bill was a staff artist for Archie comics from the 40s til his death in the 70s

What happened to Barneys leg in an episode where he was limping and using a cane ???

According to the storyline, Barney was on a ladder changing a lightbulb at home when he fell off and into the toilet! :o So that's how he broke his foot. That occured towards the end of Season 2. I'm guessing Hal Linden hurt himself in real life as well since he was in the cast for 2-3 straight episodes.

Yes he did. If memory serves me correctly, he broke it while doing a dance number for another show. (In case you didn't know, Hal is an amazing singer and dancer too!) :)

SUE!!! So great to hear from you. Yes, I know Hal was/is a talented singer and dancer, not to mention he's played clarinet and sax with different orchestras. He was a guest on the Muppet Show once, but that's one episode I've never seen.

Abe Vigoda was always that guy that looked a lot older than he was. I would have thought he was in his mid-sixties when the show ran. No wonder there were rumours about his death years ago.

He was like the guy who played Gus the Fireman on Leave It To Beaver and Mr. Gwigley on All In The Family. He played old men for decades.

Hal played in a jazz band with George Segal and Conrad Janis.

his name was Mr. QWIGLEY And his name in real life was Burt Mustin. He also had a small role in some of the early episodes of "THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW".

he was on AITF twice and, no, not in a two-part episode. And the above poster already mentioned that he was on LITB.

Burt Mustin appeared on a couple of Bewitched episodes, and I think he also did a guest spot on the Bob Newhart Show.
