I always seem to get here right when the rant is posted.

Solomon, you are right again. ION is really weird to me. I don't get why they don't have decent programming on the weekend. I would think that would be the time to maybe try out some shows that they can consider putting on during the week. Why not have ALICE on the weekends? Why not put something to give the audience a taste of what they have in their library and see what might work?
My only theory is that all that paid programming they aired during the week has now just been shoved to the weekend to help pay the bills.

And they can slip in maybe one sitcom on Saturday and One on Sunday and see how it does. Not load the schedule with sitcoms in the primetime slots. ION needs to just see and TEST the waters sometime and see how things play out

I've also been disappointed with ION programming or its lack of programming. I was hoping by now that daytme and weekend hours would be expanded to include more sitcoms like "Perfect Strangers". We have been teased with that show for months. And what do we get -- more pesky paid programming!!

Another great rant, Solomon! You always hit the nail on the head. We've been complaining about ION weekends for awhile now, and it's good to see you finally ranted about it-LOL. If they don't have any confidence in their sitcoms to air on weekends, why have them air at all? If the movies do so well, we should just be seeing 24 hours of those everyday! I guess it's already bad enough, because one movie they air does feel like 24 hours-LOL

Instead of airing Diagnosis Murder at 6pm, why not try a sitcom or 2? That way they'd have a better idea of knowing.

Exactly, Now I do think it's better to try a sitcom in the 12pm to 4pm slot and not Saturday Night at 7pm to 11pm.

Especially Saturday, because a lot of peole may be out around 6pm or 7pm, which may not be the best time to air a sitcom. They should start airing sitcoms during the afternoon, to see how well it'll hold up. I'm sure it has to do better than those infomercials.

The point is, we could be getting a whole lineup filled with sitcoms, yet ION, by choice, airs infomercials, government programming, and other uninteresting garbage during the day and gives us 5 hours of sitcoms a day.

You and I are thinking alike here. I don't expect sitcoms in the evenings because of the schedule of movies they must air, BUT, they can air some sitcoms in the afternoon. Some people do go out on weekends, but there is TiVO and there are some people who enjoy a weekend at home. I think it would be great to test the shows on the weekends. I don't expect big rating numbers, but then they won't know unless they try. They have a website where they can inform people of what shows they will try out on the weekends.

I still do not get the big deal about ION's programming. They made a deal with RHI just like they made a deal with Sony, WB, and Univseral. ION has no plans, as far as I know, to become a network with "a whole lineup filled with sitcoms." There are dozens of other types of programming that can be aired and if they decide to go with TV-movies and mini-series that are performing quite well for them, what is the big deal!?

And like Pav has said dozens of times before, ION has to fulfill contractual obligations in regards to infomercials. If they just decided to drop a block of paid programming in favor of lame old "Perfect Strangers" reruns, they'd probably get sued.

And how long do these contracts with infomercials last for? Did they sign a two year contract with them too? It's already been over a year since they got their programming deals, they must've paid them off by now. They obviously keep renewing the contracts with infomercials because it's more profitable, but it stinks for viewers.

I don't know the answer to that question, but considering that deals for certain TV shows and libraries usually last multiple years, I wouldn't be surprised if the same was true for infomercials.

The fact of the matter is that those RHI movies and mini-series perform well for both Hallmark Channel and ION. So it doesn't matter how many people here on SO watch them, because there are many, many people who *do* watch them. Not because they are bored, not because they have nothing else to do on a Saturday night, but because they actually enjoy watching them. Just like you enjoy your favorite shows, they enjoy theirs.

I care because I know that if I were a viewer of the movies and mini-series, I would be annoyed if people constantly acted as if the things I wanted to watch were just a waste of space or filler or whatever. It's so easy to say that nobody watches the RHI stuff, but how can you say that when it is a fact that the RHI stuff performs well for ION. That's something that can't be denied or called pointless. It's a fact. Ask Pav, and I'm sure he'll let you know. The RHIs may not be huge ratings draws, but they perform quite decently for ION.

And dude, I really don't care if you're annoyed by most replies. You air your opinion out over a blog for everybody to see and comment on. You are going to have people who disagree with things you say. Get over it.

WHY are you people getting so defensive? Yes, Solomon, I disagree with your rant. Yes, I would rather ION air other things over the weekend, BUT I don't believe that it's stupid of them to air what they do air. It has a following, the ratings are good, and that's all it takes for them to want to air it. What is so wrong with saying that? Why would posting that get me into trouble with TJ or anybody else? I don't have to be a watcher of the RHIs to know and understand that there are people who are.

And, roseanne88-97, I don't see why you have to be so snippy. I replied to you the way I would reply to anybody who asked that question. I don't watch the RHI movies. Okay. Point made. Why does that make me unable to defend them? Once again, they have a following and are ratings-winners. That's it. That's all I have to say. No one is breaking any rules here, so let's stop the name calling. I think JT is trying to look on the other side. Since we are sitcom lovers, we are blinded when we see anything else. But networks like ION, TV Land, when they air new material (TV Land Confidential, new movie like Killer Wave on ION), that brings in more revenue for them in the advertising department (and sometimes even higher ratings than the reruns) and more promotion for the network. Why else do you think original programming is coming? It's not like ION or TV Land doesn't want to air old reruns, but they are really forced to because of advertising. Advertisers don't pay money to advertise on shows like Who's the Boss? Even though the reruns do well.

This week, I disagree with part of the rant. I would rather see other things on ION, but I also don't think that it is stupid or pointless for them to air what they do air.

Yes. I have split personality. I'm crazy, but all of you are sane human beings. Especially Solomon. hsdldjlghslkghjkls-LOL!

Yeah, and you're not causing trouble. How are you gonna say that you're not trying to cause trouble, and then make a dumb post like that?

If you agree with tha rant, why can't you just say "good rant Solomon" instead of agreeing with it, then creating this whole big argument? I don't get it. RHI is doing well for ION - congrats for them! Why not just leave it at that? Solomon's rant is about what he thinks, not what you think.

The fact is everyone knows they must be performing or ION wouldn't be airing them. What you are saying is nothing new. Next thing you're going to say is that you don't watch the infomercials but you support ION doing it because they have commitments. Everyone knows that already. lol
AMEN! Thank you.

This is Solomon's rants and of course he speaks for no one but himself. I happen to agree with every rant so far. ;) :D

Okay. Because I was the one who brought up having split personalities. Whatever.

Exactly, i'm open to debating, just not being attacked for what I'm making fun of in the rant. I'm interested in civilized TV discussion

IT WAS MEANT TO BE FUNNY! You're saying 2 different things about this rant, hence the whole split personality thing. Take it easy. Just with thisi post you're creating more havoc. You're really good at that-LOL

Perhaps my reply was meant to be funny too! It's a joke when you and Solomon say it, but I'm stirring up trouble when I reply to it!

Okay. Obviously it is time for a recap of the thread, since the general consensus is that I came in here causing trouble.

My first reply to this thread was post #21. I said that I didn't see the big deal about ION airing what they want to air on weekends. It brings in good ratings, it has a following. I also echoed Pav's statement that ION is pretty much forced to air infomercials during the daytime, so it's their decision to drop the infomercials, unless they want to get sued.

Solomon quoted me in post #24 and told me that the big deal was that, essentially, ION's weekend schedule is full of things that the average person probably would not watch.

Post #32, made by Julie, sincerely asked if people actually watched the RHI stuff that ION airs over the weekends.

I responded in post #37, explaining that there are people who do watch the RHI stuff. I assumed that she was just asking that question rhetorically, so yes, I did have some attitude in my reply, but nothing personal and just repeat of what I already said.

Solomon quoted me in #38, asking me why in the hell I even cared. Told me that I was really started to annoy the hell out of him.

I responded in post #39, explaining again my feelings on the subject. I also told him that it didn't matter to me what he thought about my posting in the rant threads.

And then, things went on. Solomon told me that I don't make any sense, that I had done enough to get reported to TJ, that I had broken rules, etc. In #41, Julie responded to my response to her and told me that she meant her question sincerely. I apologized to her in #42 after explaining myself yet again to Solomon. Solomon went on to accuse of me of trying to stir up trouble, and he and Julie wondered if I had split personality. I explained myself AGAIN in #51, and in #54, I just had to have fun with the split personality mention.

That's the beginning and most of the middle in a nutshell.

This is the last week I'm going to say this, the tone of every rant is a JOKING TONE with me poking fun at certain things. I'm not PISSED OFF at anything, just making fun of things happening in the entertainment world. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

I know what the rant is all about. I've read them all since the beginning. It's just that when I see a sentence after each and every one that says "Agree or disagree with Solomon? Discuss it here," I assume that it means that it's okay to have a discussion about the rant, whether I agree or disagree or partially disagree or disagree with a sentiment or disagree with some of the things said.

I know what you mean Solomon, it is like what I say, "It is NOT WHAT YOU SAY, but HOW YOU SAY IT." Some posts can come off rather rude or with attitude and others are just being funny and having this to help>

And I have no problem as long as I don't have to explain myself every other post I make.

They are not getting an actual NFL game. All it is, is higlights/insight/interviews from the game of the week for the previous week. This NFL program will air Saturdays 6-7pm.
