View Full Version : Too Sexy to Fly???
Brian Damage 09-08-2007, 11:35 AM Picture this: You arrive for your Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) flight early. You manage to avoid packing excessive amounts of liquids in your carry-on baggage. You remember your ID, you wait until your seat is called, you stow your bags properly. You're even prepared to turn off your electronic devices and stow your tray table and put your seat in its upright and locked position when ... you're asked to leave the plane because you're showing a little too much leg.
Haha! What is this, 1951? Nope. It's 2007, and a few months ago waitress Kyla Ebbert (who works at Hooters, where scantily-clad is a good thing) was escorted off a Southwest Airlines flight from San Diego to Tucson because her outfit -- a miniskirt, tank top, and cropped sweater -- was too revealing (I don't see any cleavage and she was wearing a bra). She put up a fuss and was eventually let back on the plane after a lecture on her dress, or lack thereof.
I'm all for appropriate clothing, but personally saw nothing in Ebbert's outfit that was cringe-worthy. And if it was?
Since when did proper attire become yet another qualification as an airline customer? It seems that airlines are their own worst enemies these days, kicking passengers off for uproarious sins such as breastfeeding, being the parents of overtired toddlers, or (gasp) wearing a skirt. What happened to "the customer is always right"?
In the airline business, sometimes, the customer is only right if it's convenient for the flight attendant. And that's only going to spell "losses" or, at the very least, "negative brand equity." Maybe Southwest (and many of its competitors) should invest in free yoga classes for its employees. Take a deep breath...
That is ridiculous. The girl wasn't wearing a bikini for crying out loud.
Was the flight crew Amish or something?
;)
bingbangbaby 09-08-2007, 12:31 PM I hope to heck you're kidding us with this.
And even if she was wearing a bikini, I'm still not sure she shouldn't be allowed to fly. Required and/or asked to put something more on, yes, but not allowed to fly??
mrs.gingerhinkley 09-08-2007, 12:54 PM wow. that's rather harsh isn't it? I don't think she looks totally over revealing. My aunt's a flight attendant... I'll have to share this story with her.
TVAfficiando 09-08-2007, 01:46 PM I saw this on the Today Show...I was shocked! It was a stupid thing the girl is young and pretty, it's not like she was one of those Brittany Spears deals...I mean i would bet she was wearing underwear at least.
Zoneboy 09-08-2007, 01:53 PM Always remember, Southwest Airlines anagrams to:
Lawsuits on the rise
Next time she should consider taking Delta Airlines instead, They have the best rest rooms and are always on time.
Delta Airlines anagrams to:
Ideal Latrines & I Land Earliest
I'm flying at the end of the month, I had better check to see if Jet Blue has a dress code.
I'd better pack my long skirt just in case..
;)
Courtnee 09-08-2007, 04:16 PM I really don't see anything wrong with her outifit. Some people are just trying to ruin everyones day.
Chelsea 09-08-2007, 04:19 PM Southwest used to be such a fun, enjoyable airline. What happened?
freshprinceofLA 09-08-2007, 04:20 PM I've seen much worse than that on a plane!!
ABlairican Pie 09-09-2007, 12:03 AM I'd just tell them, "QUIT STARING UP MY DRESS, PERVS!!!!"
Janice 09-09-2007, 12:48 AM I was reading this (and the reader's comments, which are interesting), and I don't know. The girl had a crotch shot outfit on. Southwest shouldn't make up dress codes on the spot, but I think they have a point.

Mikado 09-09-2007, 03:59 PM Dont feel too badly for her....with her model-like looks and newfound notoriety, she'll probably be offered her own TV show!

crystals 09-09-2007, 11:08 PM I saw this story on Yahoo. I think it's ridiculous. People make a big deal over little things like a skirt. There are more important things in life than how short someone's skirt is when they board a plane. And, what were they doing looking at the woman's skirt, anyway?

How can a person not look? It was up to her ass. There's short, and there's insane short. There's no way that covered her behind when she sat down. There are plenty of businesses where that wouldn't be acceptable. She was on an airplane, with families, not her work, Hooters. There's a time and place for everything, and the time to dress like like a streetwalker is not on a plane. Watch the video in the link I posted if you want to see how short her skirt really was.

Well said!
When you can't sit down without showing all you need to put something else on- and the fact that her skirt was -way to short- was proven when she flashed everyone on TV as she was sitting down. Someone her age should know better (I'm not buying that she's only 23).

Yes, like whether or not the passenger is a terrorist! I'm a lot more concerned over whether or not the passenger next to me has a suicide bomb jacket than a skimpy skirt.
FactoryGirl 09-12-2007, 09:00 PM Yes, like whether or not the passenger is a terrorist! I'm a lot more concerned over whether or not the passenger next to me has a suicide bomb jacket than a skimpy skirt.
Thank you, i'm much more concerned about whatever the passenger is a terrorist rather than something as small as a skirt. That flight attendant needed to be worried more about passengers safety rather than go all the back to high school and pull out the dress code.

It's not about terrorists. Of course, they should concern themselves with that. This particular story is about a girl with a skirt up to her eyeballs. It's not proper attire for an airplane, or many places for that matter. Time and a place for everything, and the time for dressing like that was not then.

Dress codes are a part of life, not just in high school.

You are right about that part. :)
Mr. Stefani 09-12-2007, 09:27 PM unless she wasnt wearing underwear i dont see what the big deal is. stop looking.
GoldenGirlsFan92 09-12-2007, 09:35 PM Ellen was talking about this on her show, and she had the girl come on her show...in the same outfit that was asked to get off the plane for. I saw it & agreed that it wasn't that bad. Yes the shirt was little short, but the shirt was showing barley anthing.
*ClassicPinUp* 09-12-2007, 09:55 PM Yes the shirt was little short, but the shirt was showing barley anthing.
Not sure if that's a typo or not but the issue wasn't her shirt..it was her skirt -or lack of skirt.- :)
Lex Luthor 09-12-2007, 10:06 PM That is horrible she must be devastated
Lex .. who is flying off to console her
Zoneboy 09-12-2007, 10:07 PM Dress codes are a part of life, not just in high school.
Luckily, The schools I attended weren't very strict with their dress codes but I always dressed respectably so I had nothing to worry about. There have been two times in my life where dress codes have come into play. I was turned away from a rollerskating rink one night simply because I was wearing a black t-shirt.
I wasn't there looking for trouble and only wanted to watch my girlfriend's kids skate awhile. I had never been to that rink and wasn't aware of any dress code. I knew from common sense that I would be expected to dress appropriately.
I later found out that the rink had some problems in the past with troublemakers so they decide to enact a dress code to deter them from entering the building so even though I was only there to mind my own business and watch the kids skate, I was labeled a troublemaker simply because of the shirt I had on.
Rather than cause a scene, We decided to just go bowling and the kids had been wanting to try it so the night wasn't a total loss. The next incident happened when the kids were starting classes at a new school. We knew well ahead of time that the students would be required to wear uniforms so there were no issues there.
The uniforms consisted mainly of khaki pants and white shirt. socks had to match either the pants or shirt and the shoes had to be either casual or a decent looking pair of tennis shoes. The only thing not allowed were sandals
Again no issues until we went to purchase the required items. What the school didn't tell anyone was that the students had to wear the pants and shirts that they were selling.
They charged $25 each for the pants and $20 for the shirts and the exact same ones could've been found at Wal-Mart for less than $10. We later found out that someone from the school has purchased all the khaki pants from Wal-mart and then jacked the price up on the unsuspecting parents.
Alot of us were extremely uspet over this but it was either that or send the kids to another school. I would've chosen the latter but they weren't my kids and their mom had been trying to get them into that school for a long time.

Kinda hard to not look at a crotch shot, no matter how much you try. Her skirt was so short that they had to blur it out when she sat down on The Today Show. Who knows if she was wearing underwear. She works at Hooters. Maybe a thong, but that's not the point anyway. Actually, it might be if she was going au natural. Who wants to sit on her seat afterwards. :barf:

Get the gear ready. For 23, she looks like she's been around the block and back, and around again.

I'd rather see them throw off the smelly people first. I'd rather have some hoochie in a skirt next to me then some smelly guy in a wife beater sweating like an animal like my last airplane experience.

We can "I'd rather" this all day. Me, I'll take the sweat of a guy than the 'God only knows' from a Hooter's waitress who shows it all during a flight.

At least you can throw a blanket around the hoochie to cover her up - you can't do anything in a plane with a sweaty, smelly guy next to you. There isn't even enough leg room - you're stuck!!
Mikado 09-12-2007, 11:55 PM i have the perfect solution, she can sit in my lap, and ill cover her up with my oversized "T" ;)
Last night I was watching Bill O'Reily and he mentioned this story again. He also showed some footage of another woman who was asked to cover up on a Southwest flight earlier this summer, and to be honest, the dress she was wearing wasn't that revealing. In her case, I think Southwest airlines overreacted.
Now as for the blonde girl...was her skirt too short? Yeah, I think so.
Unfortunatly we live in a very "casual" world now where people feel they can wear anything they want to whatever they want.
Remember when you used to get dressed up to go to church, to thanksgiving dinner at your aunt's house, a job interview?
Now, a t shirt, shorts (or a denim skirt) are the perfect all around garments to wear anywhere!
I'm not saying we have to put on a suit and tie to hop on a plane, but there was a time when people used to do that.
;)
OH Nuts! 09-13-2007, 11:42 AM I may have to fly soon. OMG, now I'm getting real concerned that wearing imitation pearls might get me kicked off a flight. ha ha
Aside from the levity, a publicized dress code is not a bad idea. Nor is maybe having long smocks . or blankets for "emergiencies" such as a passenger's clothes getted ripped, those with poor/inappropriate apparel judgment (as in free skin shows) etc.
I personally think it's a smart idea to walk around public places dressed a little more toward the conservative side (long pants, mid length skirts, botton down shirts, nice polo shirts, etc.) When you underdress, it can create more problems than it's worth. Especially when flying, where not dotting all you i's or crossing all your t's can CREATE MUCHO HEADACHES. But, yes, terrorism has me FAR MORE CONCERNED...at least it'd be hard for her to hide anything. And I'd defintiely take skimpy over foul-smelling ANY DAY.
Perhaps the all the bruhaha may make her rethink how she dresses in a public place, where many cross-sections are present.
