Mr. Television 09-07-2007, 10:34 PM no Three's Company but at least their's Beavis and Butt-head. :ohno:
dawsongirl 09-08-2007, 12:27 AM I don't think miniseries/made-fors/whatever should be included.
And any list with American Idol compared with scripted shows is tainted. Ick.
MTV is a network, not a "show".
The Super Bowl? Okay...don't think that should really count either. That's more an event than a show.
The American version of The Office?! Oh please...
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman was horrible.
Mr. Television 09-08-2007, 12:29 AM I'm glad the French Chef is up there.
Ireneparalegal 09-08-2007, 12:29 AM no Three's Company but at least their's Beavis and Butt-head. :ohno:
My sentiments. WTF?????
My shows are on there: I Love Lucy, Roseanne and DALLAS. :D

Classicshowsgurl15 09-08-2007, 05:10 AM There are alot more that could have been on the list that weren't. Like Happy Days, Who's the Boss?, The Wonder Years, My Three Sons, The Andy Griffith Show. Some of the ones that they have on the list I wouldn't consider "top" shows.
Buffyboy323 09-08-2007, 07:43 AM This is one of the worst top 100 lists I've ever seen. I only agree with a quarter of the list:
All in the Family
Battlestar Galactica
Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Cheers
The Cosby Show
Felicity
Freaks and Geeks
Friends
Gilmore Girls
The Honeymooners
I Love Lucy
Lost
Married With Children
The Mary Tyler Moore Show
My So-Called Life
The Office [American]
The Office [British]
The Oprah Winfrey Show
Roseanne
Seinfeld
Sex and the City
The Sopranos
Star Trek
Twin Peaks
The West Wing
The X-Files
Buffyboy323 09-08-2007, 07:49 AM I don't think miniseries/made-fors/whatever should be included.
And any list with American Idol compared with scripted shows is tainted. Ick.

The Super Bowl? Okay...don't think that should really count either. That's more an event than a show.
The American version of The Office?! Oh please...
Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman was horrible.
I agree with everything you said (except for that snub for The Office). ;)
I mean really, The Real World? General Hospital? Pee Wee's Playhouse? COME ON!
BensonFan 09-08-2007, 09:09 AM Any top ten list that doesn't include Frasier (it lasted for 11 seasons, for Pete's sake) is complete and utter crap (whether you like the show or not).
Zoneboy 09-08-2007, 11:27 AM Any top ten list that doesn't include Frasier (it lasted for 11 seasons, for Pete's sake) is complete and utter crap (whether you like the show or not).
I've never seen Frasier but considering it's history I'd have to agree with you. It does belong on the list but not necessarily in the top 10. Other shows not on the list that deserve to be:
The Andy Griffith Show
The Six Million Dollar Man
The Outer Limits (Original)
Death Valley Days, Over 500 episodes and it doesn't make the list yet Spongebob does.
At least Alfred Hitchcock Presents and The Twilight Zone made the list & that's good but overall this is nothing but a joke.
PrettyinPink55 09-08-2007, 11:35 AM YAY for Gilmore Girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mrs.gingerhinkley 09-08-2007, 12:46 PM This is one of the worst top 100 lists I've ever seen. I only agree with a quarter of the list:
yeah, I know...
come on Lost made it but not my beloved island?!
and I was sure Brady Bunch would be on there!
JulieSomoski 09-08-2007, 12:48 PM TIME really got things wrong this time. I never heard of half the shows up there, and the ones I have heard of, a lot of them should not be up there. It's good to see some shows, like Roseanne, Cosby, MTM, and I Love Lucy were up there. Then, there's the shows that have no right once so ever being up there, like AI, Survivor, King of the Hill, and Felicity, etc. have no right being up there.
They left off great shows, which I feel should completely deserve to be up there, like Murphy Brown, The Wonder Years, Three's Company, and The Jeffersons.
kanisky7896 09-08-2007, 12:56 PM I was surprised and disappointed that 7th Heaven and Gimme A Break! did not make that list. What was Time thinking?
This list is really odd. I have to wonder what criteria they used when deciding this list.
I consider it an insult and a complete slap in the face that "General Hospital" is the only soap opera on the list. They obviously decided to just throw it in there so that they can say that soaps are represented. Why not throw in the one that was THE soap to watch when soaps WERE worth watching (cough...As the World Turns, anyone?).
I'm shocked they included "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." It definitely deserves some recognition.
But then again, that's what happens when they try to judge all types of television in one lists. They should have taken a tip from AFI and did it through genres.
tv star collector 09-08-2007, 04:51 PM I'm glad to see that Jay Ward's brilliant ROCKY & HIS FRIENDS (a.k.a. THE
BULLWINKLE SHOW) made the list. His wit and humor are sorely missed in
most of today's cartoon shows (in my opinion).

I agree with you almost 100 percent. My only exception is SURVIVOR. For the simple fact it is a breakthrough game/survival show, whatever you want to call it. It takes people not to a stage to play a game, but to the outdoors. It is unique. The only thing I hate though is that too many copycat shows came along using the "voting off" concept that Survivor introduced. I can't stand any show since Survivor for using that. That is not originality.
USATVFAN 09-08-2007, 07:30 PM that is the worst top 50 list i've ever seen,Tv guide could do better then times magazines.

I could do a better top 100 list.
TV DVD Fan 09-20-2007, 10:29 PM I could also do a better top 100 list- Here goes:
1- I LOVE LUCY- Introduced the 3-camera technique and set the ground rules for all sitcoms to follow, whether you personally like the show or not, it's the best television show of all time.
2- THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW- Not only inspired a major part of the femenist movement, but also was a hilarious show for BOTH men and women to enjoy even though it dealt with a woman trying to show to her peers she can make it without the help of a man.
3- THE HONEYMOONERS- Inspired THE FLINTSTONES, which was an equally successful show. Great cast, great acting, great writing, great directing, and when someone flubbed a line the cast didn't break out in laughter: they did their job and continued as if nothing had happened. Jackie was the master of ad-libbing. Now that's talent.
4- CHEERS- 2 different casts with an equal amount of chemistry, even though the humor may've been dumbed down a bit after Shelley left. (And hey, we still had Frasier.)
5- THE PRICE IS RIGHT- 2 words just about sums this one up: Bob Barker.
This is where things get tough.
6- ALL IN THE FAMILY- Debated putting this in the top five, but decided to keep my initial picks. Best sitcom ever created which was not really a sitcom at all: it was a family's day-to-day lives chronicled in a half-hour format in a time when men were men, goils were goils, and when they needed a man like Herbert Hoover again.
7- THE BOB NEWHART SHOW- Bob Newhart is the funniest comedian who ever walked the face of this earth: hands down. His being able to form an uproarious routine without the need of swearing or compromising any of his morals is something which today's messed up world needs more than ever. His brilliant comedic timing was showcased the best way it possibly could be in this equally brilliant vehicle that catapulted him to greater heights.
8- HAPPY DAYS- There's something in this classic for everyone, whether you prefer the more nostalgic first seasons or the more 60's feel of the later seasons.
9- SEINFELD- The show about nothing that was the show about everything. People still mention the show in conversation as if it was still going on. It's almost as if they actually did think it was still on-the-air.
10- WKRP IN CINCINATTI- By buying the first season on DVD I rediscovered my love for this show and gained a new respect for the ensemble that put it's 97 episodes together.
11-100 is coming soon, so sit tight my fellow babies, and oh yeah, I almost forgot: "Booger!" (If you never watched WKRP before, you probably think I'm crazy for what I just said) Dr. Johnny Fever... and I am burning up in here!
What to expect in my last 90 picks: a little bit of everything, from risquee cartoons to brilliant parodies of life in the military. Don't go anywhere...
ClassicTVGal 09-20-2007, 10:33 PM It's an "okay" list..... I don't feel a lot of those shows deserve the title "top show of all time".
Skywalker 09-20-2007, 10:43 PM This is one of the worst top 100 lists I've ever seen. I only agree with a quarter of the list:
Yeah, it was pretty horrible, that's why I decided to post it. The fact that they put Spongebob and Beavis and Butthead on there shows that they don't have any taste. Sure, some of my favorite shows are on there, but there are more bad than good, like all of those reality shows. puke: And what the hell is the Singing Detective anyway?

Maybe he was a former beat cop on Cop Rock and he got promoted to detective.

Scoobiedoo30 09-21-2007, 02:26 PM that sure is an awsome list
TV DVD Fan 09-21-2007, 04:26 PM Just curious---- what do you all think of my list so far? I'm in a hurry right now so I'll post the remaining 90 later tonight. I'll actually probably start a new thread because my list has nothing to do with the Time list.

There's a "Your Top 100 Shows" thread from about a year or so ago, in the archives. Maybe you should add your list there. ;)
I like your list, so far, but it seems like your list is based on the impact those shows left in TV history. TIME's list is apparently based the on how good they think the shows themselves were/are.

I know about that list, I vaguely remember it, but I'm just going to start over again. I'm not proud of how I put that list together, this time I'm going to try to actually rank the shows, as opposed to just listing them like I did there.

Singing Detective is a critically acclaimed british mini-series. I seen it, it was ok, not the greatest thing in my eyes, but that is just my opinion. I am sure it must be some huge hit because it was made into a movie starring Robert Downey Jr.

Pretty good, so far and I look forward to seeing the rest of your list soon.

Thanks for the link. I had a feeling it was some kind of british show or whatever, but I wasn't sure.
Buffyboy323 09-22-2007, 01:50 AM I know about that list, I vaguely remember it, but I'm just going to start over again. I'm not proud of how I put that list together, this time I'm going to try to actually rank the shows, as opposed to just listing them like I did there.
No problem. I was just making sure you were aware. I didn't want you to be insulted in case your thread was thrown in with the old "Your Top 100 Shows" thread. Maybe just make a thread for YOUR list only, or possibly create a new title for everyone like "Your Top 100 Shows: Strikes Back." I'm going to have to edit my list as well. I threw it together quickly. And I know my rank and opinions on several shows has changed in the year (or more) since that list was made.
I'm looking forward to your list....But is your list what you think should be THE top 100 shows (like I said in my above post), or is it based on how you rank your 100 favorite shows?
TV DVD Fan 09-22-2007, 07:39 PM Of course I have my biases, but I'm trying to be as fair as possible. I truly believe that those ten are the top shows of all-time, but it is of course completely subjective.
OK, I'm going to start the new thread now, so head on over to "The Top 100 Shows of All Time." thread if you want to see the rest of my list.
