As the neighbors of Norma (comely Lois Nettleton) are moving out of the apartment building they mention a Mr. Schuster of Toronto. Now there are three possiblilities. One could this be referring to Joe Schuster (who came from Toronto originally) and along with Jerry Siegel created the Superman comic strip in the 1930's? Or is this a reference to Jerry's cousin Frank Schuster of the Toronto-based comedy duo Wayne and Schuster (who often on CBS's Ed Sullivan Show as TZ was a CBS show too). Or both?

PS I think Frank Schuster though technically a comic was a fine actor (with good dramatic possibilities) and would have been great on a TZ ep.

You have your facts mixed-up, The Earth didn't catch fire and the neighbors are named Schuster. The wife mentions that they're trying to get to Toronto because Mr. Schuster has a cousin there but there's no mention that the cousin's name is also Schuster. The name Schuster might in fact be a reference to one of the people you mentioned then again it might be mere coincidence.

Mrs. Bronson: {Opens her door} Oh, Mr. Schuster, I thought I heard your voice.
Mr. Schuster: For the last time, Mrs. Bronson. We're leaving.
Mrs. Bronson: Did you get gas?
Mr. Schuster: I got twelve gallons. I figure that ought to get us at least to Syracuse.
Norma: Where are you going?
Mrs. Schuster: To Toronto. We're trying to get to Toronto. Mr. Schuster has a cousin there.

My second favorite ep and featured in one of my previous avatars: The episode is called "The Midnight Sun" dealing with the Earth's elliptical orbit changing and dragging it closer to the sun: making it extremely hot and threating the end of the world.

Which episode is your favorite? The Midnight Sun is top 10 for me.

"The eye of the beholder" aka "The private world of darkness" is my favorite. Extremely well written. I think Uncle Simon and the Ring-A-Ding girl are the most underestimated/underrated episodes.

Been a year since is aw the ep. The cousin there could be another Mr. Schuster. But the earth was catching fire in a way. No its definitely not a coincidence.
