LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Actress Sherri Shepherd, who has served as guest co-host on ABC's "The View" on multiple occasions, will have a permanent chair on the daytime talker starting next week, sources said.

Shepherd will join new co-host Whoopi Goldberg along with Barbara Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck on the weekday show.

An ABC spokesperson would say only that "an official announcement will come Monday on 'The View' as promised Wednesday by Barbara Walters."

It has been speculated for some time that Shepherd would become a permanent co-host on the show, which saw the departures of Rosie O'Donnell, Star Jones Reynolds and Meredith Vieira over the past two seasons.

Shepherd, whose credits include ABC's "Less Than Perfect" and Fox's "The Wedding Bells," also ventured into the talk arena before "The View," working on a syndicated project with Disney last fall.

Meanwhile, Goldberg's debut on "The View" on Tuesday drew an average of 3.4 million total viewers, according to preliminary numbers from Nielsen Media Research. That's the second-most-watched season premiere for the show -- now in its 11th season -- behind O'Donnell's debut last year, which drew 4.4 million. Season-to-date (September 18-August 26), "The View" is averaging 3.3 million total viewers.

She's not "GOOFY"....She's SILLY! ;)

I think she'll be perfect. I like her upbeat spirit. It's what the show needs, IMO. I think it's too quiet now....Or maybe they should have went with the rotating celebrity guests again. I really enjoyed the variety of the panel last year.

She's probably going to be Monday's big announcement next week. I agree with Solomon--I like the panel the way it is--or if they could add Kathy Griffin I would be okay but Sherri...it's just going to be obnoxious from here on out with her--although I believe she's only doing two days and not all five like Whoopi--so that's the upside.

Wasn't it always 4 at the table?

I don't like Sherri much either. I think Whoopi is a good replacemtn, but Sherri might be one too many.

I think that Sherri is all right. We will see how it goes. Hopefull Liz and Whoopi will not have a heated discussion like Rosie and Liz did back in late may.

The show always had 5 women at the panel, until last year.

Barbera was actually talking about this on friday's show. It started out with 4 permanent hosts; Meredith, Star, Debbie, and Barbera. Joy would work the 3 days a week that Barbera had off....This didn't last too long. Joy joined the girls full time.

In 1999, Debbie left the show, and was replaced by Lisa Ling...4 years later, Lisa left, and was replaced by Elisabeth Hasselbeck.

Star left in 2006, and was never replaced....Meredith also left in 2006, but was replaced by Rosie...Rosie left in 2007, and was replaced Whoopi...Sherri is finally taking the gap left by Star.

Or like most of last year. It seemed like there would be 1 big fight, every other week. LOL

LOL. I bet that Liz is relieved to see Rosie go. Rosie is cool and all to me, but it is like she gets so passionate about causes and then does not know how to separate some issues. I still can't believe that she did Tom Selleck the way she did on her talk show back in 99'.

I think Sherri will do a good job.
