Even though I don't like a lot of these shows, I'd saw these are the real top 10 sitcoms of all time (in order)

#1 I Love Lucy (paved the way for sitcoms like MTM and Roseanne, plus first used the 3 camera system and was first filmed in front of a studio audience)

#2 All in the Family (probably the most groundbreaking show of all time; was the only show at the time that dealt with real life issues)

#3 The Honeymooners (another great sitcom and the first of its time. Although it only ran for a short while, it thrived in syndication and was a very unique show even today)

#4 Three's Company (Also very groundbreaking, one of the only shows dealing with sexual innuendos and misunderstanding. Plus, it's still one of the funniest sitcoms to date, easily)

#5 Mary Tyler Moore (the first sitcom to show a very liberal, activist-type woman in a workplace sitcom; also showed a woman who suppoted the women's rights movement, while still holding her cool in the office)

#6 M*A*S*H (one of the few shows to date about an entire sitcom taking place in a war; it was very popular, and holds the most watched series finale of all time; it was funny, but it knew when to be serious as well)

#7 Roseanne (the first sitcom about a real blue-collar middle class American family, dealing with real life issues most families face, like money issues and finding good enough jobs to support a 5 person family; it also showed Mother was the household figure, not father)

#8 The Jeffersons (a show that dealt with a black family from the ghetto moving on up in the world, to a de-luxe apartment in the sky; it had the first interracial couple in starring roles, plus dealt with husband and wife getting into real life fights, just like all couples do)

#9 Murphy Brown (one of the few sitcoms of its time; it may not have held up too well in syndication, but it still dealt with a very famous woman newsreporter for a live primetime magazine show; it showed how Murphy was liberal and an activist, and always got her way, no matter how long how much work it took her)

#10 The Wonder Years (here obviosuly because it was the first sitcom starring a young teenage boy, getting through the rough times of junior high school; it may not be considered a sitcom by most, but it still had very funny moments, but could never fail to make you cry; also the first show ever to have a narrator)


Even though I don't like some of these shows, these are in my opinion the real top 10 sitcoms of all time. If I were to go one, shows like TAGS, Bewitched, and Cheers would probably really close, but they didn't make it in my list-LOL

Not a bad list at all........I love Lucy wasnt my all-time fave Sitcom either ( Although I DO love it ) , but, it is the most significant, and it seems most people agree, and have for over 55 years! :)

You said it well! I Love Lucy was a remarkable show, one of the earliest--and while many of its contemporaries clumsily lumbered along Lucy mastered the medium the way Fred Astaire did dancing. She was our first introduction to fine physical comedy on TV and to breaking barriers. The sponsors were adamant that audiences would reject her having a latin husband, but she and Desi proved them wrong. She held her ground, no Desi no Lucy. The network relented and the rest is history.

As for All In The Family, it brought intelligence and sensitivity to the TV landscape and was easily 30 years ahead of its time. I was a teenager in the early 70s and this show was awe-inspiring--nobody ever addressed issues the way this show did. #4 on TV guides' list?? At least 2 notches below where it should be.

Thankyou! I was just a little kid back when All in the Family cebuted, so I had no idea what it was all bout until about 10 years later when it was in syndication. I started really watching it when it first came on NAN, andunderstand the importance of it back in the seventies. Plus, it was a show that always kept you laughing, which is usually a good thing in a sitcom :lol:

This is a combination of what I feel should really be in a top ten list as well as some that probably shouldn't but I want them there.

1. I Love Lucy & The Honeymooners (Though I DO love Lucy, The Honeymooners deserves a tie)

2. M*A*S*H (Changed the sitcom formula, it was funny but it wasn't hilarious, IMO, but it did touch upon alot of important messages and opened the door for sitcoms to show their dramatic side)

3. Cheers (Hmmm...it's just so good! Great stories, characters, I admit it ran out of steam in the last few years but it was still funny and is a joy to watch)

4. The Dick Van Dyke Show (This show didn't rely on zany situations like I Love Lucy did and focused more on the husband-wife relationship and work life. Some of the episodes remind me of something that could be an episode of Everybody Loves Raymond or The King of Queens.)

5. Taxi (Very underestimated, The writing and the ensemble cast really made this show something special)

6. All in the Family (THE most groundbreaking show of the '70s, though it was funny it also touched upon alot of social issues)

7. Seinfeld (For a show about nothing this really was something! Before this there was nothing on TV like it)

8. Roseanne (Blue Collar family with 2 overweight parents...don't let that scare you away! This show was amazing and Roseanne Barr did what she wanted to do while we watched and laughed our heads off!)

9. Married...With Children (The love-hate show...most people find it rude and offensive but I think it is truly the funniest show to ever air on FOX)

10. The Mary Tyler Moore Show (Funny and great ensemble cast...love it!)


LEFT-OVERS:

The Office and Scrubs (didn't add these b/c they are current The Office may not be funny in the next season or 2 and Scrubs could end the show in a bad way...I love both these show and when they are over I will probably put them at the top of my list!)

Bewitched, I Dream of Jeannie, Gilligan's Island, The Brady Bunch, That Girl, The Munters, The Addams Family, etc. I don't feel that these were laugh out loud funny but they are fun to watch for nostalgic purposes
