I've wondered that too. I liked Swanny better than Hoppy and was sorry that he was no longer on the show.

I liked them both, Swanny really thought he was a higher ranking cop and he was silly trying to be, and Hoppy was just a dork period. :lol:

Noam Pitlik (Swanny) left to play Mr. Gianelli on The Bob Newhart Show, and then basically quit acting to direct. His most successful gig was that of the main director on Barney Miller. I believe he won an Emmy for Best Director one year as well.
