I plan to watch Home Improvement for the First time tonight since my family is saying I should and that it's very funny. So I know I watched about 24 eps of One Day at a Time and then detertimed it wasn't for me. So just curious how much of the show do some of you watch before decided if it's for you or not?

24 is a lot to determine if you like it or not. I would say a good sampling is 4 or 5 episodes.

For new shows in primetime, if I`m really interested in the show, and really want to like it, I usually watch 4 episodes (the first month of the show).

If I'm viewing a series on DVD for the first time, I try to excuse my "4 episodes rule", and instead, watch half the season.

And as for syndication, it can go either way. If it`s a show I just want to check out, i`ll give it 4 or 5 episodes. If it`s a show I've heard get`s good, and if people really seem to love, it, i`ll stick with it for half a season, or more. I NEVER quit a show I have interest in after the first viewing, because many shows take time to get better. Some of the best episodes, and overall seasons of shows take place years into their run.

I'm guessing you put the DVD up for sale then? LOL

The last show I recently got into was Kyle XY on ABC Family. I watched 3 episodes, and determined it was a likeable show for me. For sitcoms, I last got into Mad About You. I watched about 10 episodes, and bought all 3 seasons on DVD right after that.

For everyone else, I'd say anywhere from 5-10 episodes should be enough to know whether you like it or not. And Solomon, hope you like HI. It really is a good show - probably the best of the 90's, and I know you don't like shows from the 90's much.

It's hard to believe that somebody in the US hasn't seen a single episode of Home Improvement. For me, I would watch about 3-4 episodes. Sometimes you know from the first one if you like it. If it is a show in reruns it should be less than new shows because I find that if I only saw the first 3 episodes of many shows I would hate alot of shows that I love. First episodes of series are always strange like Seinfeld, Diff'rent Strokes, many others

Good question - I guess it depends on the show!

Well at least you didn't spend your money on the DVD, for a show you didn't turn out to like....Though you`ll never get those 10 hours of your life back from comcast. LOL

Your actually going to watch the entire Home Improvement marathon, or will you be tuning into a few episodes each night?

And according to Pavan, Nick @ Nite will be starting George Lopez from the 5th season, then going back to the Pilot. I'm going to try the show out for a week, but I won't start until they air it from the very beginning (which shouldn't be too long, since they'll be airing the show 2x a night).

With me, its generally a litteral "3 STRIKES AND YOU'RE OUT!"
...btw, ive never seen a single episode of Home Improvement either; the combination of, the star being a comedian whos act I never liked , combined with a premise that seemed to be mostly "male-bashing", led me to never have any interest in watching this show, and i never have.

yeah not the entire marathon. just 3 or 4 eps a night. Show is not too bad so far, i like the kid characters and Tim's character.

So Solomon, now that you've had your share of the series, will you be watching every night, or is it one of those shows that you'll turn to when nothing else is on, or was the show just not for you?

I think it really depends, I'm sure we know from 1 episode if we absolutely hate the show ... its harder to tell if we like it though, that could take a few episodes, I can't remember the show but there was 1 where I watched once and didn't hate but after 3 episodes, I just didn't like it enough to watch.

I ususally watch 3 or 4 episodes. But if I can't stand any of the characters, then I stop watching after the first episode.
