View Full Version : David Schwimmer: 'Friends' is not an "albatross"
Brian Damage 09-03-2007, 10:30 AM David Schwimmer has claimed that he never regrets starring in Friends because it gave him the "financial freedom" to pursue other projects.
The star of The Big Nothing insists that he doesn't mind forever being associated with the character of Ross Gellar as the money was so good for working on the series.
Schwimmer told the Daily Telegraph: "I'm often asked whether Friends has been an albatross around my neck, or whether people only see me as 'Ross from Friends', but I don't ever think negatively about it.
"Really, that show had been a blessing, It's given me the financial freedom to choose the projects I really want to do."
Shwimmer has done plenty of things since "Friends" wrapped!
There was...
Oh! He was pretty good in uh...
Wasn't he in that animal cartoon? "Mada hari" or something?
He was in "Band Of Brothers!"
;)

so basically what he was saying was that even though his career post-friends era has stifled he doesn't have any regrets about the money? well, they each got paid over a milion dollars or something like that for the episodes they starred in, despite the fact this show became more predictable and lame towards the end.
apart from courtney cox arquette, the rest of cast have been struggling to get roles in films and tv shows, since friends ended in 2004
Superbatboy 09-17-2007, 12:23 AM He or any of the other actors would be pretty stupid if they didn't realize how huge it was to be on that show, and that they've forever sealed their place in television history. They're pretty much paid for life because of they way they banded together and got a huge chunk of back end profit from DVDs and syndication.
It's obvious many of them, were nobodys and would be nobodys without Friends.
I think only Matthew Perry and Courtney Cox Arquette have been succesful after friends.

I'm not sure how any former cast member could be considered more successful than Jennifer.
friendsfan77 10-13-2007, 09:59 AM The only thing I know that David's done since the end of Friends was directing a couple episodes at least of Joey.

Umm what about a little movie called Run Fatboy Run that he directed?!
Ireneparalegal 07-25-2008, 09:58 PM Seems David has had a busy career. Until you check out IMDB, it seems like he hasn't done much:

I don't care for the guy, but I was curious as to what work he has done. I remember him in that breast movie.
I just hope he invested his money wisely so he doesn't end up in the poor house.
PrettyinPink55 07-25-2008, 10:01 PM It's good to see that he's grateful and not shunning the role that made him famous like some other celebs tend to do. Good for him!!
Schmoopie 07-26-2008, 12:29 AM Jennifer Aniston has been successful in that she's had a lot of movie roles, but really I haven't found any of them to be very good. Courtney Cox is staring in "Dirt" which I didn't like at first, but it's not a bad show. She's really good in it.
Matthew Perry... I can't think of anything he's done besides that movie "The Ron Clark" story. I gotta tell you... if you haven't seen this you owe it to yourself to either catch it on TV or rent it. He was fabulous in it, and I think he should have gotten some recognition for it. I don't know if it was a made-for TV movie or a feature film, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Lisa Kudrow has had some successful movie roles. She was in both "Analyze This" and "Analyze That" with Billy Crystal and "PS I Love You" with Hilary Swank.
As for David Schwimmer: Gee, I really don't know what to make out of that statement. It sounds to me like he's saying that now that he's rich, he can pick projects he likes. Well, that is what he said in a way, but it sounds like he's really saying that he didn't like being on Friends and now he can do other things. In regards to him not being bothered about being recognized as "Ross Chandler"... well, that's the price you pay for being on a hit sitcom. You'll forever be remembered as your character. He should be grateful.

Matthew Perry had a one-season show, Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip, which ran from 2006-2007. The show was a comedic drama that took place behind the scenes at a Saturday Night Live-type show. I thought it was a great show, but it was cancelled after one season. Had a great cast featuring Bradley Whitford and was created by Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing).
Lisa Kudrow starred in the ironically titled The Comeback, which chronicled a former sitcom star's attempt to comeback by starring in a new sitcom and a reality show about making that new sitcom. It was a show-within-a-show. It was also terrible and ran one season. The Comeback was anything but.
I saw an interview a while back where Aniston said something along the lines of "They keep rerunning the damn show (Friends) all the time. I can't escape it." It sounded like she was frustrated at escaping the shadow of the show, though she's made several movies since the show's end.
Matt LeBlanc hasn't done anything I'm aware of since Joey's cancellation, though he was dating his co-star Andrea Anders when the show ended.
Smartboy 11-25-2008, 11:00 PM During the period in which the "Comeback" was on HBO, I watched one episode. I will have to agree that it was pretty bad! However, I think that it is interesting that no one so far has mentioned another flop of Lisa Kudrow's. This flop is "Marci X". Even though it was flop city at the box office, it was my favorite movie of all times! I thought that Lisa really outdid herself! "The Power in my Purse is my favorite song of ever!" While I am on the topic of songs, I would now like to move to a movie featuring my second favorite song. This song is "Dancing Queen". By the way, another thing that I liked about "Marci X" is the part played by Christine Baranski. Well, in the recent "Mamma Mia!" movie she was one of the stars. One case in which I already posted a message about her on this page is "Close Behind Julie". This post is about how sexy Christine's character looked in designer boots! Wow! In my opinion, she looked about as hot in her boots as any of the "Friends" babes looked in their's. Well, in between the time that I posted this message and the present, I posted one on the "Gimme a Break!" page and called it "Mamma Mia!" Over on the "Brady Bunch" page, I started one several days ago called "A Dead Horse". I think that some of you might find some of the responses to this thread to be quite amusing! In any event, the most recent response was one of my own and it was more about the movie in general and Christine's part in particular. I would like to close this post by asking one final question. Who here is planning to rent or by the two DVD set of that movie when it comes out next month?
tiff7 11-27-2008, 03:02 PM I just want to say I loved Studio 60 & wish it would have gone on forever.
