I'm starting to get worried about The Big Valley. With the skimpy half season we got some time ago (first of the year..?) I'm starting to feel a draft....

Umm, Alias Smith and Jones also.

The White Shadow? Where's the dreaded third season? I heard it was poor but if Reeves is there, I WANT IT.

Joey (LeBlanc) Season 2? Cheers..?

Looks like Bob Newhart, Beaver, and Green Acres are RIP. I just do not understand releasing four seasons of something and THEN quitting on it.

The Mary Tyler Moore Show, it's the same deal as Bob Newhart. So ridiculous if you ask me! Murphy Brown, it's beginning to look DOA, but I hate to give up hope. Same with Who's The Boss? and The Nanny. Pav said in the Sony thread that there are some announcements still coming from them for '07, so there may still be hope there.

I wish that the distributors would stop relying on the sales and just release the sets. There's a small number that do want the sets. Look at the Sonic the Hedgehog set. It didn't sell big numbers, but it pleased the fandom. I think some of these abandoned shows should be picked up by SHOUT! Factory because they don't care about numbers, they care about the fans.

You'll be glad to know that another season of Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Mork & Mindy will be released in November.

And didn't the 5th season of Bewtiched just come out a few weeks ago?

BTW, I think this belongs in the TV On DVD section...

Facts of Life and Boy Meets World.

Because Sony's releasing it.

I'm hoping for more BMW sets soon, once Buena Vista sells the rights to a small releasing company.

Let's see, 227 season 1 was released almost three years ago with no follow-up seasons. I think that's been abandoned by Sony, I hope they don't abandon Diff'rent Strokes or Facts of Life, I do like these shows. Sony has been good about releasing Bewitched (the 5th season was released in July) and I Dream of Jeannie (with the 4th season coming next week). Paramount hasn't been good about releasing seasons 4 and 5 of Taxi, but at least they plan to release season 3 of Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, and Mork & Mindy (these shows are great). I think MGM has abandoned Green Acres. Then there's VEI and Gimme A Break, I want to see season 3 released sometime. I think the WKRP season 1 set has been doing well in sales despite the music being replaced, I think you'll see season 2 in the future.

DVD Release Date: June 13, 2006 (Paramount Home Video)

What's the hold up on Season 9...? Wasn't this one of the highest rated shows EVER...? You would think there would be a huge market. 1 year and 3 months and counting seems quite high to me. A show of this caliber I would think would be released no more than 4-5 months between seasons.

I heard that Universal gave Charles in Charge to TV Guide and so, apparently, season 2 for that show is coming. Hopefully, the same thing will happen to Gimme A Break and if/when that happens, hopefully, we will see seasons 2 and 3 released through TV Guide very soon!:)

Wow! If a Sony rep actually reads this message board, then they will see that the consensus for The Facts Of Life is that people will buy future seasons if they release them. It was one of their better-selling shows. It's baffeling that they haven't released Season 4 this year.

Looks like Gimme a Break! is another popular show. Still nothing from VEI though. Hopefully, the same route will follow for GAB! in the U.S. as Charles in Charge.

PHE's not being slow with CHEERS, they've definately abandoned it. I was once optimistic about this, but this has gotten to the point where there is no way they're going to finish out the show's discs. And with only 3 seasons to go. They've already released eight! It's not like they only released one, saw there was no support base and gave up then. But the you-know-whats tease us with EIGHT sets then basically say "Screw you. We're done with it." In so many words, that's the message I'm getting from them.

What baffles is me is how FRASIER manages to get all of it's discs out before its predecessor. If it weren't for CHEERS, FRASIER wouldn't even exist. By the way, I'm speaking as a huge fan of both shows, I just can't put two and two together. To me it is ludicrous and makes absolutely no sense how that can just flatleave TAXI and CHEERS fans like this. Totally unprofessional and disgusting.

As a huge fan (with a bad memory:) how WERE the final 3 seasons of Cheers? Any good? I thought the final season of Frasier was maybe the best.

Cheers of course is the one I need to finish out....I'm sure people have....but has anyone tried to contact Paramount/CBS and tried to get the low-down on what's going on with this series?

Robert 13

For me, I'm wondering about The Facts Of Life and Hart to Hart. For HTH, it was said in the beginning that Sony intended to release the seasons at 4-5 month intervals. However, it took a year for the second season and now a year later no news of Season 3.

For Facts, the series was different after Season 4 and it went through changes 2 years after that and then another change as Cloris Leachman replaced Charlotte Rae. So, there are fans of every era and there are fans of the entire series. So Sony really needs to get the ball rolling on this one to capitalize on all interests.

Happy Days Season 3 is coming out in November.

Facts of Life will be released at a snail's pace like all Sony properties, but it's been close to two years now since Diff'rent Strokes S2 was released. I'm more worried about that property and THE NANNY (from Sony) than anything else. As well as Barney Miller.

Cheers and Taxi have both become completely lost causes, and Mary Tyler Moore and Bob Newhart seems to have been left high and dry.

Night Court, a Warner property, seems to also be a lost cause and I doubt any more JETSONS releases are coming after The Complete First Season. Even though the only 60's episodes ever made are on that collection, the show got its second wind in the 80s with 2 more popular seasons.

And I'm fearing that PHE will never pick up THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES or PETTICOAT JUNCTION like they were supposed to. Although progress is slow, I think the LUCY franchise will eventually see releases for all of its shows (season sets of THE LUCY SHOW and HERE'S LUCY).

So many great shows, so many crappy shows. What gets released first? The latter. And when the great shows are finally released, they're either abandoned or given shinebox releases (see Frasier, Cheers, Taxi, and basically every other show ever licensed by Paramount).

10-17-2007, 06:54 PM
I've posted in this thread earlier, but Night Court needs to continue and WB needs to at least put Season 1 of The John Larroquette Show (The "good season" of TJLS) on DVD

That's one I'm worried about getting abandoned, too. Knowing Warner and their rep of abandoning a lot of their shows, it's probably been abandoned and we didn't know about it-LOL. Same goes for Murphy Brown, Growing Pains, Fresh Prince, Night Court, Living Single, and many other shows.

there are some shows I'd like more seasons of, but Facts Of Life is the only one that's up in the air that I consider a priority show. Now that I've finished all of my other fave sitcoms (well, Seinfeld ends in 3 weeks on DVD, but that's so soon), FOL is the only sore thumb being stuck in season 3. I do hope to eventually finish Family Days (I think we'll see more of this) and One Day At A Time (doubtful) as well. I've given up all hope on Diff'rent Strokes.

I never want to give up hope on any series. I mean look at The Jeffersons, Mad About You, Happy Days & spin offs, all of which people thought were abandoned and subsequent seasons did end up getting released after years. I am worried about diff'rent Strokes, Growing Pains & Silver Spoons. i have no idea how well Silver Spoons sold, but I'm hoping well enough.
