For the uninitiated: What's the big deal about this show?
I guess the best way you could learn about the appeal of this show is to check out the cast and character thread , because this show is less situation-generated than it is a character-generated comedy....Everyone in the town is a little quirky, strangely, the "Big city girl" Lacey is possibly the quirkiest one of all! It's been compared to Seinfeld for having shows about nothing in particular, however, I find THIS this show a LOT funnier than Seinfeld( Admittedly a show I truly couldnt stand )!
This show might be compared to the Andy Griffith show in its "small town charm", IF TAGS had had any idea what was going on, in the real World! :)

Also, the humour is alot more subtle than many shows I've watched. As has been mentioned somewhere on one of these threads, there's no laugh track (YEAH!) and they don't shove the jokes down your throat. You can be watching an episode for the fifth time, and still find something new to laugh at.

While Fred, who plays Hank, the town idiot, has starred in several Canadian movies, Americans may recognise him as the pilot flying over the North Pole, at the beginning of the Disney film "The Santa Clause 2" !

Gabrielle Miller played Willa Haver on an episode of Frasier.....He met her when she was parking in his spot, but, unlike the majority of the women on that show, she had NO interest in Frasier!!! :lol:

Nancy Robertson who plays the clerk, Wanda, at the Corner Gas convenience store married CG star Brent Butt during the hiatus between season 2 and 3....She started out doing Improv comedy

Brent Butt (Yes that's his real name) is a successful Canadian standup comedian from Tisdale Saskatchewan on which he modeled the fictional town of "Dog River". (The show is actually filmed in the town of Rouleau Sask.)
Brent plays gasman Brent Leroy, who decided to wear a custom-made sky-blue bowling shirt, as a uniform....because it had, as he says "Stylumfort" ( Style AND comfort!) :lol:

:D the outdoor gas station set was built in 2 weeks to look like an old weathered Art-Deco gas station, circa 1940. It is so realistic looking that they had several civilian cars pull up to the pumps during the first week of filming!

"Corner Gas" debut, 8 and 8:30 p.m., WGN. One of the new season's best shows arrives for a sneak peek - or, actually, nine peeks. Officially, "Corner Gas" arrives Sept. 17. Over the next few days, however, WGN will air nine half-hours; it has plenty, 69 have been taped in Canada, over four seasons. You'll find the droll, dry wit of Canadians in general and Brent Butt in particular. He plays the owner of a small-town gas station and convenience store in Saskatchewan. In tonight's opener, a city girl (Lacy Burrows) takes over the adjoining diner. In the second episode, a tax man (Kevin McDonald of Kids in the Hall) visits. In both, the humor is slow, sly and quite wonderful.

So...let the fun begin!
