Now this is an episode that really cracks me up. Governor Gatling tells everyone they’ll be vacationing at his Uncle Murray’s lodge for a fun snowy, skiing weekend. Benson has no interest in going whatsoever but after realizing he’ll be stuck alone at the mansion with Kraus, it suddenly doesn’t look like such a bad option. LOL

They arrive and find a place that’s not exactly up to their ideal standards. It’s cold, not particularly clean, and that damn bearskin rug keeps tripping them! Taylor is complaining he is sick and Marcy freaks out when she finds a raccoon in the bedroom (she thought it was a bear). Well, at least Katie is happy to be there.

The next morning we find Kraus has arrived at the lodge after all, and “took a bus to the village and walked up the mountain” (a story she’d have to repeat every time someone entered the room) to get to the lodge. Once Benson sees her there, he decides it’s time to leave…unfortunately there was a monster snowstorm the night before which will force him (and the others) to stay put. They have hardly any food and no way to get to the market. This is bad enough but then they later have to deal with a man and his pregnant wife who manage to find their lodge thanks to the tunnel Benson shoveled from the window. And of course, the woman is about to give birth. This is one of Gene’s early shining moments as he comes to the rescue to delivery the baby boy.

There are a lot of really funny moments in this episode. The bearskin rug thing is a riot. Everyone trips over it once except for Katie and Kraus. Pay attention to when Governor Gatling trips over it—if his head doesn’t hit that door it comes pretty damn close!

Kraus repeating the story I mentioned above—that was really funny. She got a little more irritated every time someone asked her when or how she got there.

The part when Benson tells Taylor to go up the chimney and write “help” on the roof. When Taylor refuses and Benson aggress to do it, he starts going up the chimney and Gene says, “Do you see anything?” Benson replies, “Yeah, I see the last guy that tried to get out this way.” LOL

Would you really eat raisin flakes that were 15 years old? Yuck! I think I’d rather just have a mouthful of snow. They had enough of it. And speaking of the snow, it was funny how fake it was. If you open a door and snow is pressed against it, the snow will fall into the doorway, not stay perfectly still like it did here. You could see the snow that was in the window was probably just pieces of Styrofoam.

Although I know it added to the storyline, I didn’t like the part with the pregnant couple. I liked the main actors just annoying each other at the lodge. I would have preferred to see a different ending but I understand why they did what they did.

Other funny quotes:
Taylor: “Why don’t you just kill me Benson? Kill me right now.”
Benson: “Sweep first, then we’ll talk.”

Benson: “Katie, try not to track any of this dirt onto that nice clean snow.”

Great episode. I really like this one.

7 -- Snowbound.

Poor bear, 4 trips over it and attacked. Taylor kicking the bear; that would be exactly what I’d do after tripping!

Taylor doing a Felix impression. Making that noise sounds rather painful...

Wow, Gene smokes. Ick. Well, guess I shouldn’t be surprised, as he did say he celebrated Katie’s birth with a cigar. But still, yuck.

The beginning of consistency errors: birthing makes the governor faint -- but only in some cases (e.g. puppies, Denise's son). In the case of little piggies and the trapped couple, it doesn't happen. Can anyone think of a plausible explanation?

Quick quote:
Katie: I don’t think God’s making them as strong as he used to. Lots of mention of the Lord for a TV show (oh, yes, the Our Father in ep. 2)

Not a good episode for me -- snow, smoking and a pregnant woman, plus I got sick of the plaid after a while. I can understand the writers wanting to get some new scenery, but (usually) those outside the mansion/Capital City don't click for me. The guests I thought rather needless actually. I must admit, though, I kept cracking up with the bear trips! :-D

Fave Quote(s):

Benson: "Sweep first, than we’ll talk." (sounds Kraus-like, doesn’t it? I can even hear the acccent!)

++

Benson: So, Kraus, you’re staying,
Kraus: Of course.
Benson: Here.
Kraus: Ja.
Benson: With us.
Kraus: Absolutely.
Benson: Then I’m not needed.
Kraus: You never were.

++

Gene: It must have snowed last night.
Benson: You think so?
Gene: Only thing I can think of.
Benson: You may be right.

I wondered this myself. I don't understand why, with Denise's birth, the Governor said he only delivered puppies. Did he forget about this ski lodge incident? If he did, so did Benson because Benson didn't remind him, "Hey, you did this before--get over there and deliver this one too!" :D

Yes that snow was just as fake as the Raccoon and the part about the state police not knowing where the Governor was vacationing at was down right ridiculous. In reality they probably would have been camping outside the cabin. I agree about the pregnant couple if the writers thought the episode needed some drama they could have saved some money and just had Taylor dragged off into the woods by a Cougar or something.LOL My favorite line was when Benson was reassuring a very worried Katie that the baby would have plenty to eat because her mother had milk. Katie: "Is their enough for everyone."

I just thought of something else: How did Kraus get into the cabin? She came in the middle of the night and everyone was surprised to see her, so obviously it's not like she knocked on the door for someone to let her in. So they didn't lock the door? Or the window? :confused:

Also, wasn't that the same night they got all that snow? She never said anything about it snowing when she saw them and with the amount they got, the snowfall had to be in full swing by the time she was in the vicinity!

I loved this episode - I howled every time someone tripped over that stupid bearskin rug. The funniest moment is when Taylor kicked it back!! :rofl: Taylor sure was a sniveling crybaby in this one, huh? :crybaby: :lol: For those of you who didn't know, the man playing the expectant dad is Jerry Houser. He went on to play Mr. Marcia Brady - Wally Logan - in the Brady Bunch reunions.

Oh yeah....a total wimp indeed! Any respect the others might have had for him went totally out the window after this trip.

Taylor: "Benson, I'll die up there."
Benson: "Up there or down here. Your choice."
Taylor: "Down here."

I agree - the pregnant lady and husband were not needed. I for one would've LOVED to see Taylor get dragged off in the woods by a mountain lion! :rofl:

I am watching Snowbound and I remember the episode and I love when Benson went to go sit on The Sofa and saw that Karus was at the cabin and I was wondering who was The Busband and The Pregnant lady in the episode snowbound.

I watched this episode again last night. When Gene tripped over the rug, he really did look like his head was going to hit the door!! :lol: Why didn't they just throw that stupid rug outside after the fourth trip!? :rofl:

I just watched the episode again today and noticed the easy chairs and couch all had a western theme. The chairs had horse heads on them, and the couch had a fence. I thought that was kind of cool - Uncle Murray must have been a bit of a cowboy!!! :cool: :D

I can't believe your all missing the best scene in that episode! :D
At the end where Taylor comes in with the ski patrol, and says "I told you I would get help" and one of the patrolmen says "We found him on the roof crying":lol:
Robert Guillaume's laugh looked real like he may have lost it:lol:
