Hi - I just watched an interview with Dick York on YouTube.com from 1992. During the interview Dick said that from the day he left the set of Bewitched in pain up to the year of 1992, him and Elizabeth have not talked. Does anyone have any other info on this? I thought they got along!!!

Liz did not refuse to be in contact with DY for the rest of their lives, there was simply no reason for two people who were Not Friends who just worked together to be in contact with each other ever again, no matter what his health was like at the end, he was a stranger to her.

So I don't think there was any dislike there or anything there one way or another, any more or less then it was or wasn't there with Kasey Rogers or anyone else, she didn't see KR after the show ended for 20 years till Dick Sargents's funeral.

So her not seeing DY again means nothing, she had not seen or talked to her good friend David White for over 15 years till Herbie Pilato reconnected them in regards to his book as both DW & DS wanted to talk to Liz first before getting involved with it.

I mean even DS a good friend with Liz had not been to her home in over 10 years, people lose touch & drift apart, it doesn't mean anything one way or another.

So he was just someone she worked with that was it no matter how much anyone would like it to have been otherwise.

There is zero indication that there was any ill will between
Elizabeth Montgomery & Dick York or any friendship, they simply worked together as many people do.

When he had to leave the show it was simply due to the fact that he could no longer function & his health forced him to retire from acting, nothing more then that, he was not fired.

If she wanted to she could have had him fired at anytime during the 5 years he was there, instead she & Asher bent over backwards & went out of their way to an extreme to keep him on the show as long as was humanly possible.

In my view they did the right thing in continuing the show, Dick Sargent did an excellent job, we had 3 more superb seasons of Bewitched & were all the richer for it for having these years as a part of our viewing lives.

As Liz & DY simply worked together & were never friends it is perfectly normal & natural that they lost touch & never were in contact again.

Just as she did not see Kasey Rogers or Alice Ghostley till Dick Sargents Funeral in 1994.

She was great friends with Carol Burnett but after Carol moved to Hawaii they lost touch & rarely interacted again, this happens among friends & is perfectly normal, much less someone whom you did not know on a personal level & merely worked with them.

So all this she never spoke with or saw him again is much ado about nothing.
There simply was no need too & as i have illustrated was the most normal thing in the world to take place.

She never treated him badly & there was simply no reason for the two of them to be in contact with each other over the years, simple as that.

People have to remember that they were actual people not Darrin & Samantha, sometimes fans get the two mixed up and act as if Samantha had forsaken Darrin, that just wasn't so.

That seems awfully cold. I've seen on other shows that people stay in touch with each other even if they weren't real close. And I doubt they would have fired Dick York. He was a big reason the show was a success and it's no wonder that when he finally was replaced the show tanked.

Couldn't agree more.

I always felt it strange that no contact was ever done. It puzzled me after I read the section of when he left in Aggie's bio.....I don't think she had contact with him either and I'm not sure he attended her funeral.

I do know there are plenty of people whom i was close to in college and in my first job and we have had no contact since the day I graduated or left the job.

I think they lost touch had a lot to do with York's health and financial issues over the years. I think they also were just too preoccupied with their own lives. I dont recall ever hearing or seeing an interview where anybody on the show felt badly or had any ill will towards one another.

Everybody has brought up good points. DY spoke very well of Liz right up to the end (and you can read some of his memories about her in his autobiography). Plus, when people don't work together every day and are busy with their own lives, you tend to lose touch. Besides, the Yorks moved all the way across country to Michigan. With the majority of the Bewitched people still living in California, that definitely would put a crimp on socializing!

don't get me wrong but given his condition when he left the show any normal person would have kept contact to see how that person was doing this kinda makes me a little dissapointed because Liz could have contacted him at anytime cause he called her.

^ DY did do a radio interview with Bernard Fox (Dr. Bombay) in the late 80s/early 90s, and Erin Murphy (Tabitha) mentions that she kept in touch with her first TV dad here:

Those outakes Erin talked about would make an excellent bonus feature on the remaining dvds to be released.

Yes I agree and that answer is far too simplisitc. I always find it strange that Elizabeth didn't even visit Dick York while he was initially in the hopspital after his final collapse on the Bewitched set. That seems very strange not to even visit a co worker of over 5 years standing when they were so ill.

Good point. I've always wondered about that myself, but with both of them gone, I doubt we'll ever know the whole truth.

And I'm sure it is a moot point........both enjoying the afterlife and enjoying that they helped make so many people laugh and forget their troubles for at least 30 minutes at a time! :)
