Actor Owen Wilson was rushed to hospital on Sunday after allegedly attempting suicide.

Star magazine and the National Enquirer claim the 38-year-old actor was taken to St. John's hospital in Santa Monica, Calif. by ambulance after police and paramedics responded to a 911 call from Wilson's home shortly after noon.

According to the report, Wilson was discovered by a family member with a sliced left wrist. He also allegedly took an unknown quantity of pills.

Santa Monica Police refused to provide details but confirmed that a person was transported to hospital for treatment.

Wilson was reportedly transferred to another hospital in stable condition after his wrist was sutured and bandaged.

The star is currently filming Tropic Thunder in Hawaii with Ben Stiller and has two more films lined up. His movies include You, Me and Dupree and Starsky & Hutch. Wilson's relationship with Kate Hudson ended earlier this year.

TMZ has confirmed that Owen Wilson was taken to the hospital Sunday in Los Angeles.

Santa Monica Police issued the following statement to TMZ: "On Sunday Aug. 26. 2007 at 12:10 pm officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a medical assistance call from the Santa Monica Fire Department at the 900 block of 23rd Street. The person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated."

TMZ has learned the 911 call came in at 11:59 a.m. to the L.A. Fire Department.

Citing medical privacy laws, they would not release any additional information, nor would they comment on why he was transported.

A call to Owen's rep was not immediately returned.

This is certainly shocking news!

If this is really true - then it is indeed shocking. Owen Wilson, to me, has always seemed like a laid-back, carefree kind of guy. The Inquirer and The Star are named as sources, so I'm taking this news with a grain of salt. In any case, I certainly wish Mr. Wilson well.

Wow :( I like Owen Wilson, I hope that whatever is wrong. He will have a smooth recovery and feels better soon. I know what you mean Monika, I thought of him the same way.

Even if he did attempt suicide, his publicists (and himself) will say it wasn't.

Anyone who thinks suicide is the answer surely needs mental help. Let's hope he gets it rather than brush this aside.

I'm starting to see this all over the Internet. Something did happen. If it was a suicide attempt, that's a terrible shame, to feel that's your only solution. I hope he gets the help he needs.

Wilson in Good Condition, Hospital Says


SANTA MONICA, Calif. (AP) - Owen Wilson was reported in good condition Monday, a day after he was taken from his home by ambulance, a hospital spokeswoman said.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," the 38-year-old actor said in a statement released through publicist Ina Treciokas.

No further comments were expected, she said.

Wilson was at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said hospital spokeswoman Cynthia Harding. He was initially taken to St. John's Health Center in Santa Monica.

He "is here in good condition," Harding said.

It wasn't known why Wilson was hospitalized, but a neighbor said a police car, fire truck and ambulance were outside the actor's gated house around noon Sunday.

"These guys were kind of taking their time taking a stretcher out of the ambulance, then they went into the house," said neighbor Geoffry White, 61, who lives directly across the street.

Santa Monica Fire Battalion Chief Jose Torres said Monday the department responded to a call that involved Wilson. The chief wouldn't comment on Wilson's injuries or condition, citing federal privacy laws. Wilson's screen credits include "Wedding Crashers" and "You, Me and Dupree." He was nominated for a screenwriting Oscar for 2001's "The Royal Tenenbaums."

I heard on the radio news today that he was admitted in some "rehab" facility. Another way to avoid being entered into a mental facility when someone tries to commit suicide. Any news on this?

This is terrible. Tonight they were whoring this story out on all of those crappy entertainment shows, it was hard to watch. I wish people would just leave him alone and let him recover.

That being said, I can't believe this. I've always liked Luke and Owen a lot because of the Royal Tenenbaums, among other things.

This is the first ive heard about owen on SO, there has been no coverage about him over here in the uk.
