Convicted sex offender John Evander Couey was sentenced today to death in killing of 9-year-old neighbor Jessica Lunsford.

In March, a six-man, six-woman jury recommended after just 75 minutes of deliberation and less than two days of testimony that he be executed for the crimes.

"This is justice for Jessica," her father, Mark Lunsford, a truck driver turned child-protection advocate, said after the recommendation was read in a hushed courtroom, his eyes red from weeping. "The fight continues. We still have to make things tougher. . . . Instead of them stalking our kids, we'll stalk them."

A week earlier, the same jurors unanimously found Couey guilty.

The case prompted tougher sex-offender laws across the nation.

Unfortunately the darn attorney general in that part of Florida decided not to file charges against him. The whole community is still up in arms about that one. Hopefully he won't be re-elected....

I know there were those who lived in the trailer in which this ****** lived in, and they lied to police and investigators abt his whereabouts, even though they knew damn well what crime had occurred, BUT THEY DIDN'T HAVE CHARGES FILED AGAINST THEM!!!!:mad: Had it been their child, they'd be singing a different tune. Jessie's dad was asked if he was going to go to the execution and he said that he was going to apply for the job! That drew a few snickers from the crowd of reporters.

He was joking a bit and finally aplogized and said that if he didn't laugh, he would end up crying.

Oh and I watched it on Fox News and noticed that Mark Klass was sitting right next to him and had his hand on his shoulder. Very touching...

Marc Klass has been there for just abt everyone who has had a child murdered or missing. I know that many of the parents who have had a child murdered or missing have banded together and helped those parents who are going through what they have gone through. Like one of those parents stated, "It is a club for which we wish we were not a member of."

This case proves one thing:Justice works not only on TV,but sometimes in real-life as well.That creep got just what was coming to him.
