NBC wakes up to Amne$ia
NBC has okayed the latest quiz from 'reality guru' Mark Burnett, the LA producer behind US hits like The Apprentice, Survivor and Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader?
Amne$ia is a show in which "the contestant is their own worst enemy," according to Craig Plestis, executive VP of alternative programming, development and specials at NBC Entertainment.
"Amne$ia is a relatable and nostalgic gameshow that's deceptively simple and yet exposes how shaky all of our fondest memories can be," said Plestis, who is prepping the format for transmission later this season.
The programme was created by Burnett and Roy Bank, who also co-created Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader? Bank added: "Part of the fun of gameshows is watching contestants struggle with recalling what should be the simplest information – but nothing should be easier than recalling the facts of your own life."
The show is described as a high-energy game in which contestants answer questions for money and prizes, the twist being that all of the questions are about the contestant's own life. The series is being executive-produced by Burnett and Bank.
The company handling the international roll-out of the format is as-yet unclear. Burnett's previous formats go out through a variety of distributors, including Mark Burnett International, Reveille and FremantleMedia.
