View Full Version : Do you prefer male or female singers?
Chocoholic 08-22-2007, 10:19 AM I'm a woman and I prefer listening to men sing. Just about all of my favorite singers are male. I don't know why I prefer listening to men over women, I just do.
Some of my favorite singers/groups: Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks, George Strait, Tim McGraw, Rodney Atkins, Emerson Drive, Lonestar, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Big and Rich, Gary Allan, Phil Vassar, and Carrie Underwood.
Nighthawk76 08-22-2007, 01:19 PM I had to vote "no preference", because I like both male and female singers. Interestingly enough, when it comes to bands I tend to perfer males (The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Van Halen, Genesis, The Bee Gees, ext.) , but when it comes to solo singers I seem to perfer women (Martina McBride, Sara Evans, Donna Summer, Nicolette Larson, ext) . Even though some of my favorite solo singers (Elton John, Billy Joel, John Lennon, Prince, ext.) are male. So, I guess that I have no preference either way.
Mikado 08-22-2007, 01:45 PM With me, sex of singers depends more on the GENRE of music I'm listening to....for instance, when it comes to Rock n Roll; I prefer male singers by a long shot, if I'm listening to Big Band music, it doesnt matter as much. When it comes to music from movie musicals, I prefer the women ( Especially Judy Garland ); and when I'm listening to J-pop/J-punk ( Japanese bands ) I only like the females ( Japanese men sing with a nasal tone i find quite grating! ).
phoebe7165 08-22-2007, 03:11 PM I find my preference is towards the male singers, mostly vocalists in 'rock bands'. My favorites are James LaBrie(Dream Theater), Freddie Mercury, Geoff Tate(Queensryche), Roger Daltrey, Chris Cornell, Gary Cherone, Joe Elliot, Steve Perry, Geddy Lee, David Coverdale, Dennis DeYoung.
I also love Barry Manilow & Elton John.
There are only a few women I like though - Barbra, Pat Benatar, Stevie Nicks, Ann Wilson
freshprinceofLA 08-22-2007, 04:05 PM It doesn't matter to me as long as they sound good I don't care about the gender. But I do listen to male artists more but that doesn't really mean I prefer them more.
Nighthawk76 08-22-2007, 04:42 PM Oh my, when I listed my favorite male solo singers, I forgot Bruce Springsteen, who is my all time favorite solo singer period.
I like both but I listen to male singers most often.
catlover79 08-22-2007, 05:26 PM No preference. As long as the person has a good voice, who cares?
Number 9 Dream 08-22-2007, 05:47 PM I don't know why, but I've always listened to predominantly male groups and singers. I can count on one hand the female singers I enjoy...it's not that I don't like them, it's just that the bands I happen to like are led by males.
GoldenGirlsFan92 08-24-2007, 09:55 PM No preference. I listen & love both Male & Female sings...and tend to lean towards more female singers, but I love both. If they have a good voice & my kind of music....then I like them.
coffield3 08-25-2007, 02:44 PM Both equal.
Chelsea 08-25-2007, 04:17 PM It really depends on what's being sung.
CarJackSnyder 08-25-2007, 04:28 PM No preference. As long as the song sounds good, it doesn't really matter to me
Fleet 08-25-2007, 06:33 PM I like both men (Nat King Cole, Elvis, Johnny Mathis, Bing Crosby, Perry Como) and women (Connie Francis, Doris Day, Judy Garland, Gayle Caldwell, Timi Yuro).
But it could be said that women have a more "beautiful" voice since they can hit the high notes.
Dutabi84 08-25-2007, 06:41 PM This is one of the very rare occasions where I'll say, "I prefer men."
