I remember watching "Sanford and Son" reruns as a teenager in the mid 1980's on my local Detroit UHF station, and their version of the episode entitled: "The Piano Movers" was severely edited. Basically all of the references to the white man being gay were removed from this episode. Chunks of dialogue were missing, and the plot did not make much sense. My sister is 7 years older than me, and since she saw the episode when it was brand new on NBC, she pointed out to me that it was missing several important scenes. I believed her but did not see the un-cut version of "The Piano Movers" until "TV Land" showed it in the late 1990's.

I am curious. Were all the "gay references" removed for the "syndication package" version of this particular episode (in other words it was shown as a severely edited rerun all over North America back in the 1980's),or was it only done this way by my local Detroit UHF station (probably to avoid offending the gay community)?

Cheers! :)

Sincerely, Steve B.

I honestly don't know. I'll get a copy from the library and watch it.

Never mind. I don't remember the references being edited from the syndicated versions; however, I did watch the DVD today. They were all there, and so was the opening scene where Lamont finds the note under the truck's windshield wiper.

Watch the DVDs....if you want to see uncut versions of S&S! TV Land is a butcher too!
If you only get to see the show on TV Land, you are at thier mercy! They edit at will....
There are some pretty good deals on Ebay.... You can probably find seasons 1-6 as set for under $100....
