View Full Version : Favorite Saturday Morning Cartoons
PajamaParty 08-20-2007, 03:05 PM With fall coming, for some reason I always get nostalgic for my favorite tv shows of the past. I guess cause as the cold sets in you stay indoors more, all cozy in your pajamas camped out in front of the tv. It reminds me of Saturday mornings, sitting in front of the tv, reaching into the cereal box and shoving mouthfuls of golden grahams in my mouth as I watched toons til noon. (hey, that sounds like a good title for a saturday morning cartoon line up.) anyway, what was your favorites?
before running ouside and jumping into some leave piles, i tuned into garfield and friends, looney tunes, muppet babies and scooby doo.
tbswatcher 08-20-2007, 03:09 PM Darkwing Duck, Tiny Toons, Power Ranger Moighty Morphin, Bobby's World, Pokemon Season 1, and 101 Dalmatians.
I liked watching Scooby Doo and the Looney Tunes.
My favorite on Looney Tones was Tweety and Sylvester.
Mikado 08-20-2007, 03:34 PM Well, Im assuming you mean what did I watch on Sat mornings when I was a kid, so, lets get into the "way-back" machine and travel back in time.....
The Bulwinkle Show
Everything's Archie
Scooby Doo ( it was actually good, 40 years ago )
Hot Wheels ( a show that was short-lived despite huge ratings*)
Land of the Lost ( The original, not the crappy 80s remake )
*The late 60s "Hot Wheels" show was of course based on the Mattels toy cars....and that's what killed it! In those days, if a children's show was based on a real children's product, the show was considered a commercial in itself, and thus couldnt accept advertising......so, with no commercial sponsorship, the show couldnt go on, despite very high ratings! ( My how things have changed! )
MLBonTBS 08-20-2007, 10:50 PM I woke up every Saturday morning for "Garfield and Friends." That was my favorite show growing up. I also stayed tuned for shows like "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." CBS used to have great Saturday morning cartoons.

pw4732 09-28-2007, 10:15 AM Hi folks, my first post ever here...hope I do this right...
Anyway, this is great. When I find people who love cartoons as much as I do, it's like stumbling across relatives you never knew you had (relatives that you like, not the ones that drive you crazy, that is).
Yeah, Saturday morning cartoons were the best! I always liked the older stuff - what I'd consider the classics:
Tom & Jerry,
Looney Tunes,
Woody Woodpecker...and all that great 60's and pre 60's stuff, even the cartoons that go waaay back.
Actually, I guess especially cartoons from way back. It's just awesome stuff. When you think of the work that went into cartoons that would play before feature movies in the 40's & 50's...well I just love 'em.
And now that I have kids I get to introduce them to some of my favorites (if they are available), which is about as good as it gets. But I don't let them eat Cap'n Crunch like I used to on Saturday mornings...you might as well spoon the sugar straight out of the bag!
tanquant 09-29-2007, 07:10 PM Welcome to the board pw4732:wave: I'm sure that you'll like it here.
I love the old cartoons. My favorites are Looney Tunes, Jetsons, Flintstones, Flinstones Kids, Scooby Doo, A pup named Scooby Doo, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Tom and Jerry, Smurfs. Garfield and Friends were the best along with Heathcliff and Popeye. Tex Avery was awesome and also those Disney shorts. Most of my dvds are cartoons becaus here is such a few selection to choose from on tv nowadays.
yankeesfan82 10-02-2007, 09:24 AM I used to watch Garfield & Friends, PeeWees Playhouse, Beethoven, and Muppet Babies on CBS. I used to watch Super Mario 3, Yo! Yogi, The Chipmunks, Gummi Bears, and The Smurfs on NBC. I used to watch Free Willy, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, Flintstones Kids, The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, and The Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show on ABC (tho during the last few years the show was on WTNH in New Haven bounced the show to 5AM or 6AM. Who wants to get up that early on a Saturday).
As I got older Disney's Doug, The Weekenders, and Recess on One Saturday Morning on ABC. I used to like that kid court cartoon that ABC aired, but WTNH carried that at 630AM. Who wants to get up that early on a Satuday. Saturdays were TagSale days in my family so I'd stay in the car and listen to the radio and I'd be able to pick up WLNE-TV from Providence, Rhode Island on the car radio on 87.7 FM, so I'd be able to listen to that kid court cartoon on ABC at 1230PM. All Channel 6's can be picked up on your radio at 87.7 FM. 87.7 is below the FM Band.
