View Full Version : A visit from Ricky and Fred
Last week, on vacation, I was driving a wide western loop sightseeing, camping, hiking, et al. One night I got a tent sight at a campground near Rock Springs, Wyoming, and the zipper to close up the tent broke off and I wasn't able to try to force it back on with the material all stretched out and the darkness. But I realized the opening was right 'into' the wind and there was a storm coming. So I pulled up the stakes and turned the tent around with the support rods intact and 'restook' it with the opening opposite the wind. I went to sleep after 10 p.m., and around 2:30 I looked at the opening near my head and Ricky Ricardo and Fred Mertz were peering in, and Fred said, "Hi there, Tim!" and Ricky said, "We just dropped by to see how you were making it in your open tent." I guess I was startled and opened my eyes wider, but of course they disappeared. I have had "waking dreams" a few times before, but this was one of my more interesting ones    .

Yes, it really happened. A "waking dream" is when you are still dreaming even though partially awake. The unzipped opening of my tent was real, and I actually saw them peering in at me through it and talking to me... until I was too awake to be dreaming any more.
It was cool, but I'm glad I know what it really was. Since it is confusion of reality with fantasy, it's easy to see how sometimes it happens to people who become convinced that is a full reality; and the result is they believe so strongly in ghosts, UFO's, an order to do something illegal, et al, that they can pass polygraphs that they have seen these things.

Did you have I Love Lucy on your mind that evening or earlier by chance? I have had dreams like that. It is surreal. And I do know what you mean, equating it with those who feel they have been visited or abducted by space aliens... I usually have those kinds of dreams when there is some noise going on around me, such as the radio or television, outside disturbances, etc.
No, ILL had not been on my mind at all that night-- consciously, that is. Maybe the camping trip episode was in 'back' of my mind, considering that a few things were going wrong. Or, since I was just stopped for the night, maybe the ep where Lucy and Ethel hitch the ride to Florida, where 'Miss Grundy' brought her sleeping bag and L & E just slept in the car-- which is what I thought I might end up doing if the storm came and I couldn't keep the rain out of my open tent. For the record, there were only a few sprinkles  .
Madame X 08-21-2007, 10:28 PM I know. Dreams can be so weird! If it was the way I dream, Fred would be speaking with a Spanish accent and Ricky would be shaking!
