Does anyone remember Jeopardy! when Art Fleming was the host? I saw a couple clips on YouTube and I thought Art did a fantastic job as the host.

Yup...when I was a kid, i lived close enough to school to come home for lunch everyday, and, along with my soup and sandwich, I got my daily dose of Jeopardy with Art Fleming. (It was a daytime show then) I think Arts version was a little more fast paced , as opposed to Alex Trebeks more "laid back" version. ( Since it was a daytime show, it had to be )

I remember Art Fleming as host of the original version of Jeopardy! I also remember him saying before each Final Jeopardy "Please be sure it's in the form of a question." If NBC Daytime Vice President Lin Bolen didn't tamper with the daytime game show lineup, it would have had a longer run. Interesting note, Art Fleming never missed a single episode.

As I recall it he was pretty badly hurt, when he was replaced by Alex Trebek....really bad-mouthed the new set and the answers that were much easier than when he'd done the show.

I remember Art Fleming well when Jeopardy first came on, and I think he was a much better host than Alex Trebek.

I'm 28 and the only Jeopardy I remember is with Alex Trebek. So whatever happened to Art Fleming?

I was a HUGE fan of Alex Trebek's other game show, Classic Concentration. I would make up my own game board and matching prizes at home and play the game with my siblings and Grandma whenever she babysat. Ahh, childhood memories...:D

It was a classic case of "We want someone the 18-35 group demographic can identify with", Art Flemming was already 60 when the NEW Jeopardy with Alex Trebek came out, and the producers just felt he was too old.

He also didn't like the idea of the losing contestants not getting to keep the money they earned during the course of the episode.

To me, what's sad is that while other shows have seen themselves reinvented with new hosts, the work of the original host often managed to endure through reruns on GSN. Fleming and Jeopardy, sadly, is an exception to that since almost all of the original 1964-75 run was wiped out of existence except for a small number of episodes. The 78-79 revival we're not even sure exists in whole, as only three episodes of that circulate on the collectors market and GSN has only shown one.

ART hosted the show for the first decade plus. A huge part of my
childhood. I have 4 episodes with ART from the original run, and
a couple from the show's brief return.
Art also did some acting. The most readily available would be a
guest appearance he did on an episode of STARSKY & HUTCH.

Hey Ya'll.

I recently got two episodes of Jeopardy! from the Art Fleming years and I do agree with ya'll that Art is a LOT better than Alex Trebek as host.

Alex can be pompous and a bit too serious at times. He was better hosting "Classic Concentration" than J!

I wish NBC never destroyed the original shows.:( It would've been great to see more.

I wouldnt say Art was better OR worse than Alex....Art Flemings version was a daytime show, so it had to be more fast-paced than Alex's nightime version which is a bit laid-back, by comparaison

I remember the show in the early years. Contestants sat a desk type seats. You could sit, back then. Art would say "Well done my friend" when a double Jeopary was answers. Did Art pass away.? He be in his 70's 80 now.

However Cat, he was still alive when the new Jeopardy began and was upset not to get the gig

I wonder if when Jeopardy! came back for the first time in 1978 if Art was happy with the format changes?
