View Full Version : Ethan Hawke: It's Not Easy Being in Celeb Marriage
Brian Damage 08-18-2007, 01:06 PM Ethan Hawke, whose split from Uma Thurman caused a tabloid frenzy, says being part of a celebrity couple can be hard on the ego.
"It's unfair when one person's career is taking off and the other is really suffering," the 36-year-old actor tells AMC's "Shootout" in an interview slated to air Sunday.
"What happens it's not that they're jealous of each other; it's that the person you share your life with isn't in the mood to support," Hawke says. "You want to have a pity party for yourself, but they're off to the Golden Globes and you don't want to go because everyone is going to think you are jealous."
Hawke and Thurman were married in 1998. She filed for divorce in 2004. The couple have two children.
"There's a certain geometry to life that life has a certain math equation to it and if you're never together, you can't build a home," Hawke says. "Joanne Woodward put her career on the back burner for that marriage (to Paul Newman) to last. And something's got to give."
Hawke received an Oscar nomination for his role in 2001's "Training Day." His film credits also include "Dead Poets Society," "Great Expectations" and "Before Sunset."
Thurman, 37, has starred in "The Producers" and the "Kill Bill" movies. She was nominated for an Oscar for her role in 1994's "Pulp Fiction."

Janice 08-18-2007, 01:19 PM He blew it with Uma with his cheating. I read an interview with him where he spoke how of what a difficult time he was having dealing their marriage ending.
Wait, he's a celebrity?
;)

You said it Janice. Celebrity marriage or not, if you cheat, you caused a terrible rift in your marriage. How dare he speak out on this.
What abt these successful "Hollywood" marriages:
John Travolta and Kelly Preston
The late Bob Hope and his wife Dolores
Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw
Tom Hanks and his wife Rita
Paul Newman & JoAnne Woodward
Oh there are hundreds more of these successful marriages where one partner has a greater, better career than the other spouse, but they seem to make it work. ;)

he could talk. it was he whose cheating had caused their own marriage to break up. how interesting it was too that back when uma and ethan separated, her career was back on track as she starred in kill bill 2 and thatduring the same period, ethan's movie career in contrast went on the downslide

Add to that Dick York (Darrin #1 on Bewitched) and his wife Joan. They were married for over 40 years until he passed - despite his many health problems, bankruptcy and other problems. Despite all that, they were still in love and happy when all was said and done.
Other couples we can add: Bob Newhart and his wife Ginnie (married since 1963), Hal Linden (Barney Miller) and wife Fran (married since 1958), and Johnny & June Cash.
Ireneparalegal 08-20-2007, 04:26 PM Let me add Ernest Borgnine and his beautiful wife Tova have been married since 1973.
Jay Leno and his wife Mavis are very happy and have a successful marriage.

That's right; Jay & Mavis have been married since 1980. :D

27 years!!! And still going strong.
Ethan Hawke... He is just making excuses. Bigger stars than him have successful marriages in Hollywood or anywhere else they live.
The late Carlos Ponti and Sophia Loren
Clint Eastwood and his wife Dina Ruiz. She was a successful newscaster and later hosted a version of the Candid Camera show.
catlover79 08-20-2007, 06:14 PM Larry Hagman (I Dream of Jeannie & Dallas) and his wife have been married for 42 years. Suzanne Pleshette's marriage to her second husband lasted over 30 years until he passed away, and her third marriage to Tom Poston lasted for almost 6 until he passed on earlier this year.

I can't believe I forgot abt Larry Hagman (aka J.R. Ewing) and his wife. What a beautiful couple. ;)
Also, his sidekick Patrick Duffy and his wife have been married since 1974!!!!!
Robin Williams and his wife have been married since 1989 or 1990.
Anyone remember the wonderful marriage of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, until that bastard Mark David Chapman murdered him? What a loss for us but especially for Yoko and their son.
And of course, the marriage of Paul and Linda McCartney, who were married for what seems like forever.
The late George Harrison and his wife Olivia were also very happily married.
Ringo Starr and his wife have been together for a very long time as well. It seems three of the Beatles had successful second marriages.
