Overrated - Scarlett Johannson Sure she's very beautiful, but I just don't think she can act!

Underrated - George Clooney Okay, the Ocean's 11 movies are some lightweight stuff, but he has also done a few really good movies in the past few year that show his range. Plus he is a pretty good director too. I think he has a pretty good future behind the camera.

Overrated:Ben Affleck...When was his last hit again? He has made bomb after bomb and still gets work.

Underrated: Shia Lebeouf...I think this kid has a HUGE future in Hollywood.

on ben affleck, i don't recall him ever starring in one decent hit. almost all his efforts have 'turkey' written all over it- daredevil (crap that was too), gigli, that film with liv tyler of whose name i have completely forgotten to name but many

on scarlett johannson, the only film i liked of hers was lost in translation. the worst was the island with ewan mcgregor. that was beyond woeful, it was horrific

Partial list...Im sure ill think of more later, anyway.......

Overated
#1 Meryl Streep- The usual thing I hear is how she "talks like the great actresses of the 1930s", frankly, her ability to fake an accent HARDLY makes her a great actress herself; i find her average, at best.
#2 Jessica Lange- Its no WONDER King Kong went after her in the awful 70s remake, everyone knows that apes love wooden things, such as trees, and nothing was more wooden than JLs acting...yet somehow, no one seems to have noticed that her acting isnt any better now, than it was 30 years ago!
#3 Elisabeth Tailor- Yeah she was amazingly beautiful 60 years ago, but, was never more than a fair actress...and a kind of hammy one, at that

and others in no particular order
Clint Eastwood
Arnold Schwartznegger
John Wayne

Underated

#1 Harold Lloyd- The forgotten member of "The big 3 of silent comedy" ( And in my opinion funnier than the other 2 < Chaplin and Buster Keaton )
#2 Penny Singleton- She was beautiful, she could sing like an angel and dance as well as any other musical star of the 30s-40s , but, never really hit it big , other than playing Blondie in a wonderful series of films based on the comic strip (Unlike todays comic-based movies, these were actually high quality and funny as all get out! ), and being the voice of Jane Jetson until her death in 2003

More later, probably :D

Overated Clint Eastwood

In polls Clint Eastwood often ends up being the top movie cowboy and is practically always top movie cop and for good reason - he kicks major ass.

Well, playing cowboys and cops doesnt take that much talent, compared to playing comedy, or dramatic roles

Most movie cowboys and cops are dramatic roles with some even winning Oscars.

Cop roles are much more physical than emotional, but, I'm not here to argue about that...this thread is only asking an OPINION of what actors and actresses we feel to be overated, and, in my opinion, Clint Eastwood is.
You arent obliged to agree.

Overrated: Definitely Scarlett Johannson! I totally agree with you, Tom...I haven't seen anything by her that wowed me. In my opinion (and feel free to disagree with me on it) is that her acting is very bland and monotone.

I also feel Angelina Jolie is incredibly overrated. Ok, you can play a crazy chick...what else can you do? lol.

Another overrated actor is Tom Cruise. Besides playing an awesome Lestat in Interview with the Vampire, his other roles all come off the same--cocky and arrogant.

Underrated: Probably comes as no surprise, but I think River Phoenix was quite underrated. Yes, he was acknowledged for his roles, but he never achieved the super stardom I thought he would. I blame this on crappy movie choices, though. Besides a select few of his movies, the rest of them were low-budget crap that didn't really showcase his talent well (no, wait...he was pretty much the BEST thing about those movies). Of course, he's dead now so I guess we'll never get to see what more he could've achieved :(

Exactly right!

Whatever role she plays, Scarlett has that one blank expression on her face ALL THE TIME!

I've seen characters in video games with more emotion.

I am going to add Nicole Kidman to this list.

Her latest movie "The Invasion" was panned by the critics and ignored at the box office - another in a long line of stinkers she's made in the last few years.

She really needs to do another costume drama.
