View Full Version : Lucy Wants a Maid...episode chat
Ireneparalegal 08-17-2007, 09:22 PM Ok, this episode just p*sses me off. I love it, but I hate how Lucy allows that maid to intimidate her. I would have been on that phone so fast with the agency and told them exactly what kind of person that lady was and how rude she was, etc.
I don't think I would have allowed that lady to remain as long as Lucy did.
Mikado 08-17-2007, 09:28 PM "Its soooo hard to get good help, these days!"
*ClassicPinUp* 08-17-2007, 09:29 PM I thought the same thing! If it was me I would have kicked her @ss out the second she looked me up and down with that look of disgust.

Another thing was serving Lucy a peanut butter sandwich while the maid ate...what was it...half a roast beef, a salad and jelly? (I may have that wrong). Forget Lucy's spending habits! Ricky would have used an entire pay check just to feed the maid
Ireneparalegal 08-17-2007, 10:11 PM lol!

Wasn't that just rude and crude of that witch maid to eat roast beef while Lucy had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich????? Lucy should have just kicked her a$$ to the curb like you said. And to top it off, even Ricky was intimidated by that old hag.
Janice 08-17-2007, 10:22 PM I saw that episode a few month's ago. I remember thinking that it was out of character for Lucy to take that abuse. It was funny at the end when they trashed the place, and the old hag had quit.

Yeah, and the "Well, I've got to eat to you know" comment ! She played that part well though that's for sure. I've never disliked a character so much before.
I lmao off at Ricky saying "I was waiting for you to introduce me!" Also the look on his face when she first comes out of the kitchen looked like he was saying "what the h*ll is that!"
-Could you imagine having to clean up that apartment after they made that huge mess!

Ah, you read my mind abt what the look Ricky had on his face. He did seem to be thinking just that!!!!   I guess he was expecting a young, happy thing to stroll outta that kitchen.
OMG, that mess they made!!! See, had she just told off that witch or called the agency to complain abt her rotten attitude, that mess wouldn't have happened. Poor Lucy.
Not only that, the maid had the audacity TO TELL LUCY WHAT HER SCHEDULE WOULD BE????? The agency should be sued for sending such a troll!!!

Old hag...
Lucy was tired mentally, she just had a baby you know. ;) That's why she didn't have the mindset to tell that witch off.

A woman dressed as a French maid perhaps

Girl I hear ya on that one  Or when Lucy dared to say the 4 letter word
-baby- she had some crazy glare in her eyes when she turned around and said "bayyyybeeeee!"

:brent I can actually hear that old troll saying that in my head right now as I read that!!!!!
Baaaay-beeeee! Now really, don't you think the agency should have sent someone who was aware of that fact? I am sure Lucy told the agency she was a new mother who needed a maid.
"And who takes care of HIM!?

She acted as if "baby" was another word for devil or something. I loved Lucy's "he's just a little one" remark.
I would have thought that too. I mean the biggest reason for getting a maid was to help take care of little Ricky so I think Lucy would have mentioned that. Besides even if she didn't she was being paid to stay there most of the day and I'm pretty sure it doesn't take a full day to clean an apartment so a few hours helping Lucy out with the baby -wouldn't have killed her-

You are so right. The apartment was so darn small and what mess was there other than dishes, cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, dusting and making beds, laundry and cleaning the bathroom, FOR TWO PEOPLE MIND YOU. She was getting paid a king's salary I bet, and then with those days off, afternoons off or whatever the hell her schedule was, that old hag had it made.  That witch made it seem like she was cleaning a castle and was going to be there over ten hours. :smash: She wasn't even going to be doing anything for the baby, like his laundry, making his bottles, changing him, etc.
*ClassicPinUp* 08-18-2007, 04:45 PM I think our favorite maid:p also played a grouchy woman in Sales Resistance. I may be wrong but I thought it looked a lot like her?!?
Ireneparalegal 08-18-2007, 04:46 PM I will have to check and see...I will post my find after I look in my Lucy Book.
Ireneparalegal 08-18-2007, 04:47 PM Yep, you are right, it is indeed her!

Superbatboy 08-20-2007, 02:54 AM Is it me or did that maid look like she smelled?
Is it me or did that maid look like she smelled?
I think she smelled out those easy jobs, such as for people hiring a maid for the first time, or a wife who wasn't used to giving orders-- which, of course, is not Lucy almost all the rest of the time on ILL.
Have you noticed, though, that television audiences historically like domestic workers who are a bit pushy or wisecracking or a bit cantankerous... Hazel, Bub [W.Frawley] and Uncle Charley, Florence, Alice, Mr. French (in his own proprietary way), among others. But for a single episode appearance, 'Mrs. Porter' (what is her first name? Gertrude? Esther? Eunice?) can be allowed to go way too far because she must be gone for the situation to return to 'normalcy;' whereas in the shows where the housekeeper is a 'regular' that is the normalcy.

Yeah, the housekeepers probably are that way because the family is so helpless and clueless. That's why they need a housekeeper in the first place!
A few more are: Mrs. Naugatuk (Maude), Rosario (Will & Grace) and Benson (Soap).
The only one I think is an exact opposite is Mrs. Livingston (Courtship of Eddie's Father). She was meek, quiet and polite.
Hey, TDR! Why don't you submit this thread to the General Board? I think it is an interesting topic and there might be a good response.
*ClassicPinUp* 08-25-2007, 08:10 AM After watching The Amateur Hour with those twin boys...I would GLADLY TAKE THE MAID! She seemed like a real angel compared to those little hell's angels!

Imagine an episode where Lucy was babysitting those God-awful twins AND she had the maid there as well. Those boys would have known what it is to BE AFRAID!

Those boys were terrible, especially when they kicked Lucy in the shins. I laugh every time I watch Lucy's face when she gets kicked!

I know! I wince every time she gets kicked because it seems so real. Maybe she wore shinguards so the boys really could get a good whack at her.
*ClassicPinUp* 08-25-2007, 02:03 PM LMAO!
What I can't get is how they kicked her? I've paused and slow motioned sooo many times it's terrible! It really looks like those little boys kicked her?!?! Anyone know? If that was real Lucy was one heck of a trooper!

You know, I looked real good at that scene as well. The only thing I came up with is that Lucy had a shin-guard of some sort on her leg, so when the boy kicked her, it wouldn't hurt. I can't imagine Lucy taking a kick like that to the shin for real, nor can I imagine the boy wanting to kick her real hard in the shin like that.

Must be that because I couldn't imagine anyone letting someone do that..it hurts like hell! I noticed too in Lucy Fakes Illness when Lucy kicks Ricky she really really kicks him hard! He had to have some type of protection on!
Did anyone else think those twins looked a lot like Alfalfa from the Little Rascals?

Oh yeah. Most definitely. I can't help but think of that little guy when I see the evil twins.
coffield3 08-27-2007, 09:04 PM I only recently watched this episode, id be scared of that maid!! lol the maid was kinda like lucys bossy mother! she didnt need a maid all she needed was ricky to chip in now and again.

It appears the only time the apartment got messy was when Ricky messed it up in that one episode "Men Are Messy" and when he and Fred tried to cook in the job switching episode. Let me also add, when Ricky and Fred tried to make breakfast for Lucy when she was pregnant. I think Ricky SHOULD HAVE HELPED TOO!!!
When Ricky didn't mess the place up, it was Lucy who did it, especially in the maid episode. SHE messed up the place in "Men are Messy"; the time she was trying to make the apartment look smaller so Ricky could get the bigger apartment, she brought in all those toys; when she was trying to make Ricky feel like he was at home in Cuba she decorated the place with all that junk...did I miss anything?

A couple of smaller messes were in "Lucy Cries Wolf," when Lucy messes everything up in the apartment to make it look like she was kidnapped, and in "Lucy Plays Cupid" during the dinner with Mr. Ritter, when Lucy acts like a total slob, spilling, dropping and tossing things around the living room.
OH Nuts! 08-28-2007, 05:54 AM Rats! I don't have this ep yet. But give me time. It's so delightful going thru the eps one by one. Last Fri. bought 3 DVD collection with "Too Many Girls", "The Long, Long Trailer" & "Forever Darling". I know I saw "The Long, Long Trailer" many yrs. ago. It's been crazy @ work but when things die down I'm gonna give them a watch. I know they're gonna be divine. Lucy always is.
(I'm an ILL freak in training...and a BIG FAN of Miss Ball)
OH Nuts! 08-30-2007, 12:52 AM OOPS! Spoke too soon. I DO have this one. It's The Diner I don't have. Yes, this was fun to watch. And thx for telling me about the bridge table MadameX. Yes I did notice that when there was a brief fade-out and when they returned to the table you could see the #s there the 2nd time along w the arrows.
Yes the maid was a complete sow and Lucy should have fired her ass muy pronto. And man what a mug on that maid--she'd need 3 plastic surgery operations just to move up to ugly. And her nerve--she gets roast beef and Lucy peanut butter. And not even any jelly for Lucy! "I gotta eat don't I" she bellows. Lucy should have docked Mrs. Porter for what she ate--the pig. May Mrs. P live the good life under a bridge.

Rich, a lot of us love episode chats although sometimes they get buried under another thread. Maybe if you start a fresh thread for an episode there would be more response. I would try to chime in everytime! :)
OH Nuts! 09-10-2007, 08:05 AM Thanks MadameX. Great idea. Love to. And it will be DEVINE to learn all the fine points I overlooked--which will make watching a wonderful episode even more so the next time around. You and Irene sure know your Lucy!

I love it Rich. Good idea. Maybe we can go in order. I know you have started watching the show so you can chime in on the conversations, that would be great, one episode a week. What do you think? Go ahead and start it Rich...GREAT IDEA!
Katya 09-28-2007, 02:54 AM Rocky fired the maid she didn't quit but we don't see that part Ricky tells Lucy after she Fred and Ethel made that big mess.I agree it was out of character for Lucy to be so intimidated isf she had to take it from anyone it should have been Ethel! I think it was a funny episode though for just that reason Lucy expcects to have it easy but it dosen't work out that way.I do think that maid was a piece of work though epecially when she ate all that food:(
