To my great surprise, i was unable to find a thread dedicated to Elvis Presely on this aniversary.

Here's a shout out to the King ... if he's still alive... :D

His music was brilliant and his songs unforgettable.

His impact on music will always be remembered!

RIP Elvis.

I love Hound Dog, Jail House Rock, Don't Be Cruel, Love Me Tender....I can go on and on. Elvis was always my favorite singer....him and Johnny cash. I remember sitting on the floor playing with some toys when the news broke that he died. It really shocked me. But his music will live on forever. :)

My favorite Elvis song will always be Suspicious Minds. When I was about 11, my grandparents took us kids to a "community days" celebration at their local park. That evening, an Elvis impersonator sang, and I danced with my grandpa to Suspicious Minds. Aside from the fond memories, I also think it's a cool song.

Other Elvis favorites of mine: The Teddy Bear Song, Jailhouse Rock, Can't Help Falling In Love, Devil in Disguise. My dad's favorite is Moody Blue.

I like SUSPICIOUS MINDS, IN THE GHETTO, JAILHOUSE ROCK, KENTUCKY RAIN and a million more.

I remember back when I first heard the news that he died, on the car radio. I was with my mother, and I remember I turned to her and said "ELVIS PRESLY? I didn't know he was still around"! because you hadn't heard about him in a long time.
Then in the days following, when all the radio stations were playing his music, and his movies were all over TV; that's when I became a fan.

(I couldn't BELIEVE when I heard on TV LANDs MYTHS AND LEGENDS tonight that some people STILL believe; after 30 years, that he's still alive:faint: )

That's my man John talking. YOU RULE JOHN...AND SO DOES ELVIS!!!!!

Suspicious Minds would have to be my favorite. My fave movie is Paradise Hawaiian Style and of the course the critics' favorite (sarcasm) Change of Habit. :D

I was 12 when Elvis died. I remember the day he died. There are days when things happened and you remember that day like it was yesterday.

These are the days that stay in my mind:

THE DAY ELVIS DIED:(
THE DAY JOHN WAYNE DIED:(
THE DAY LUCILLE BALL DIED:(
THE DAY JOHN LENNON WAS MURDERED:mad:
THE DAY PRINCESS DIANA WAS KILLED / MURDERED BY THE PAPPARAZZI:mad: :(
THE DAY MOTHER TERESA DIED:(
THE DAY POPE JOHN PAUL II DIED:(

And of course the day family members died. :(

I dont want to put a downer on this thread but just how did elvis actually die? ive heard so many storys from friends family people online!! it had nothing to do with drugs it did he was obese??

He was an abuser of prescription drugs. He took diet pills, uppers, downers, mostly to help him sleep and to stay awake. He slept during the day and partied all night. When he died, it was listed on the death certificate as a heart attack brought on by the prescription medications he was taking over the years.

The doctor who prescribed him the hundreds of medications, I believe had his license revoked, but I can't recall what if anything else happened to him. Elvis asked for pills and this doctor would give them to him. Yes, Elvis was overweight, and I am sure that played a part as well with his heart problems.

I read somewhere a while ago that he couldnt sleep, in the early 70s you could tell in his eyes! Damn that doctor! So did he take all them pills at once like on a day to day basis? no wonder. Also my dad told me storys about him before my dad died he was a huge fan of elvis and he said that elvis never got over his mothers death and that he was never the same elvis after that?

Elvis really adored his mother. He loved her to death. She was such a beautiful and loving mother. She didn't care abt the fancy cars or furs he bought her. If you ever get a chance, watch the movie ELVIS starring Kurt Russell. That movie really shows the love between them. I don't care for how the love story of Priscilla and Elvis was portrayed because it wasn't accurate, but the mother/son relationship is so touching.

Elvis relied day to day on the pills. He took handfuls of whatever he felt he needed to make it through the day. Priscilla Presley's book is a great source on that. He took those pills like you and I would eat food to live. He felt if he took diet pills, he would lose weight. Didn't matter that he ate too much of the wrong foods and had a horrible appetite for junk food.

Elvis dated a woman by the name of Ginger (can't recall her last name) and he supposedly was engaged to her at the time of his death. He also dated Linda Thompson, a former Miss Tennesse I believe. She was a beauty queen when he met her. She ended up marrying Bruce Jenner (Olympian and actor), they are now divorced.

Elvis left the bulk of his estate to Lisa Marie. However, she was not to receive anything until she was 25 years of age. But, when she hit 25, Lisa felt she wasn't ready to deal with that kind of responsibility yet. So her mother (her appointed trustee) is the one who helps her run the estate now. Lisa waited until she was 30 before she handled anything related to the estate. SMART MOVE.

That movie was probably the best of all the Elvis movies. You'd think someone would actually try to make a theatrical movie of his life.

Linda Thompson also married music producer/mogul David Foster - but last I heard, they'd split up. Does anyone know for sure?

The combo of the pill addiction and his high fat, high calorie diet probably did it. What a shame.

I've heard it before. She is really good in it....I picked up both her albums, on the days they were released. But honestly, her music isn't all that great. It`s okay though...I had a little obsession with her a few years back...I think she's one of the hottest women I've ever seen. And she really is one of the most fascinating people alive.

Hhhhmmm....I always thought it was the constant prescription drug use that made him gain all the weight. Interesting.

I think it hasn't been moved because it`s a general discussion of all things Elvis, not only about his music....I could be wrong though....But that rarely happens.. :)
