This is basically the order I would have aired the show in if I was in charge of that sort of thing. Let's start at the beginning...
Season One: 1990
1. "Legacy" - There's no doubt at all that this is the first episode.
2. "There Once Was a Girl from Nantucket" - This was the second episode produced, yet it didn't air second. I think this just has a very second episode feel to it. Brian's back at Nantucket and he gets his brother into trouble from the get-go. And in a minor note, Lowell had a blue cap. It's the very next episode where he begins wearing his trademark orange cap. There's also a line where Joe asks Brian what month it is and Brian says April. Yet this episode aired in May. It would have been April with my order. ;)
3. "Around the World in Eighty Years" - This was produced as like the fifth episode, I believe and it aired second. While I feel it should be earlier than fifth, I stand by my choice to make "TOWAGFN" the second episode. So I'm making this one third. It kind of makes sense, too. Brian's back at Nantucket. Last week, he was getting Joe in trouble, this week he's butting into Helen's life.
4. "There's Always Room for Cello" - This was produced third and yet didn't air until midway through the second season! That's bad enough, but the fact that people accept it there puzzles me. It's so obvious it was made in the first season. I don't know NBC's reasons for airing it in the 2nd year, maybe the subject of Roy having a teenage gay son? Anyways, I've put this back where it belongs in the first season.
5. "All for One and Two for Helen" - I had to put this somewhere, lol. And I have a reason for putting the next two episodes where I put them.
6. "Return to Nantucket, Part 1"
7. "Return to Nantucket, Part 2" - I've always seen this as the two-part season finale. The whole (albeit very short) first season, they mention Carol and it's the finale where we finally get to meet her. Plus if the show was cancelled, it would make for a nice series finale of a seven episode sitcom. Of course if it was cancelled that early, none of us would be talking about it today, lol.
I'll do the other seasons later. I just wanted to have this thread started already.
Now I'm not pushing this order on anybody. Watch it however you want to. I'm just saying the order I like to watch them in. I think Joe Hackett would appreciate me putting the episodes in order. Or he'd be annoyed with me for not leaving things alone, lol.
