View Full Version : Anyone remember: VIVA VALDEZ and JUST OUR LUCK w/ T.K. Carter?
Ireneparalegal 08-15-2007, 04:23 PM My boyfriend mentioned these two shows to me this morning. I had forgotten all abt them until he reminded me of them. Can someone give me a link to where I can see a list of all these unforgotten 70's & 80's shows, summer replacements, mid-season short-lived shows?
I didn't really care for Viva Valdez but I wouldn't mind seeing it again. I really liked Just Our Luck, too bad it was short-lived, it was really funny.
Here are links to the two mentioned shows:

I have 2 episodes of Just Our Luck I received in 2006 after being curious about the show because of T.K. Carter
Ireneparalegal 08-19-2007, 01:01 AM Can you make me a copy? Should I mail you a blank tape or what?
catlover79 08-19-2007, 01:03 AM Isn't Just Our Luck the show where TK Carter played a genie in a lamp?
Ireneparalegal 08-19-2007, 01:04 AM Yes my sister.:D

Yeah you can either send a blank tape with $5.00 money order for shipping or a $8.00 money order which would cover the cost of the Tape and shipping combined

I do remember "Viva Valdez" as being a very loud and boisterous family comedy (like NBC's similar-era "The Montefuscos"). I believe its source material was a long-running Canadian sitcom called "La Famille Plouffe" (CBC, 1953-1959).
As I recall, ABC was quite high on the series until the arrival of Mr. Fred Silverman as programming chief, after which it gathered dust upon the shelf for about a year until ABC aired the 13 episodes of it as a summer replacement from May to September 1976 as a lead-in to Monday Night Baseball if I remember correctly.
howilu 11-26-2007, 11:05 AM I remember Viva Valdez. it was one of the few shows of the 70s with a predominately Hispanic cast. The one thing i remember was when Cousin Jerry (played by Jorge Cevera Jr.) entered the house, he would always say "Hello everybody!"
Du Mont 01-07-2008, 09:00 PM I found these ratings from ABC's 1975-76 season. Viva Valdez was the lowest rated program for the season, but a 9.3 in households would be an awesome rating today. It would be nice if one of the Spanish-language networks would re-air the 13 episodes of the very first sitcom centred on a Spanish-speaking family.

I wish I can find out the ttal ranking for That's My
Mama
Jude The Obscure 04-01-2008, 01:11 AM I remember both Irene, although my memory of Viva Valdez is very dim. Like you, i would like to see an episode just for nostalgia.
Just Our Luck had the unfortunate timing of being up against The A-Team. It did follow Happy Days, but HD was in its final year and rapidly falling in the ratings.
Du Mont 04-01-2008, 02:12 AM I wish I can find out the ttal ranking for That's My

That's My Mama ranked 70th out of 97 series in the 1975-76 regular season (preem to April 18, 1976).

And where is this information from?
TV Knowledge Fan 04-02-2008, 07:40 PM ....was on ABC's summer schedule, on Monday nights [8pm(et)], in 1976, I remember seeing just ONE episode....and I've forgotten all about it.
I certainly remember "JUST OUR LUCK". 13 episodes, that's all. I remember the episode where Roy Orbsion guest starred as an "alien"(!) under Shabu's influence...I remember seeing an ad in TV GUIDE where Shabu and his "master" are sitting in a hot tub with several beautiful women...and wouldn't you know it? THAT scene appeared at the end of an episode! And really had nothing to do with the rest of what had happened before....that was in November of '83, I believe...

Where did you find these ratings?
Wouldn't QUE PASA USA? be considered the first sitcom centered around a spanish-speaking family?

I found the ratings in a file folder, and they are a merge of regular season and summer season ratings from Nielsen.
I consider VIVA VALDEZ to be the first Spanish-family sitcom as it debuted in May 1976, a year before QUE PASA USA debuted in May of 1977.

Thank you for that. Do you have ratings of other years as well? That is really interesting info.
I though Que Pasa debuted in 1976...my bad.
