View Full Version : My ipod was stolen
Number 9 Dream 08-13-2007, 03:40 PM I am so angry and upset right now...my video ipod was stolen from me by one of my brother's dirt bag friends (I think...I strongly suspect he did, anyway). I'm having him walk over to his house right now to demand answers or I'm calling the cops. That thing was nearly $500! :crying:
I have a question...does Apple replace stolen ipods? I don't think they do, but I was holding out hope any way :(
Mikado 08-13-2007, 03:46 PM You should call the cops first, rather than try to handle it yourself.....and things like that would go on the general home insurance.

Ireneparalegal 08-13-2007, 06:57 PM Believe it or not sweetie, Dateline just did a segment abt stolen ipods.
Call the police, report it stolen, then call Apple Inc. and let them know it was stolen, give them the police report and they MAY, may be able to track it if the person who stole it use iTunes to download stuff or try to re-register the ipod under THEIR name.
Checkout Dateline's website and see the info on their website abt that segment they did, it may have the information still on there abt how that exactly works.
A woman who believed her ipod that she had was actually stolen, went to an apple distributor and they said they couldn't trace who it belonged to, that that information was private. Sorry. However, she went to another apple distributor and that manager checked the ipod serial number and who it was registered to. They contacted that person and that person did in fact have their ipod stolen and never expected to see it again.
Good Luck sweetie.
Nighthawk76 08-13-2007, 07:31 PM I'm sorry about this, Kristel. :(
Number 9 Dream 08-13-2007, 09:01 PM Thanks, guys...still no luck :( My brother said he's going to go over to this guy's house in a few minutes to see what's up. When he called earlier, the guy denied it (of course). I still have a feeling it was him.
Irene, that's interesting information. I'm gonna check out their website...thanks, hun! :)

You are welcome Kristel. I only hope you win in this situation; that is really awful. I hope that website helps you somehow. I feel really bad for you, that is not right. I am sure your gut instinct is correct abt that guy. What a ****head.

Janice 08-14-2007, 12:05 PM I'm real sorry to hear this. Please be careful with whatever you do.
Number 9 Dream 08-14-2007, 12:14 PM Thanks, Janice...it's beginning to look like I have to buy a new ipod :(
I'm real sorry to hear this. Please be careful with whatever you do.
RoryGilmore 08-14-2007, 12:17 PM So your brother didnt have any luck?
Number 9 Dream 08-14-2007, 12:28 PM Unfortunately, no...I mean, there's nothing we can really do since there's no proof. It just sucks because my ipod was worth $500 and I put that on my credit card...I'm basically still paying it off :( I always get screwed somehow.
So your brother didnt have any luck?
RoryGilmore 08-14-2007, 12:30 PM That really sucks. Sorry
Number 9 Dream 08-14-2007, 12:33 PM Aw, thanks :)
That really sucks. Sorry
swedeace 08-14-2007, 05:31 PM Aw, I'm sorry to hear about this Kristel. :( I was replying to this thread on my cousin's laptop last night, but the laptop battery died on me just as I was typing up my message. I didn't get a chance to get back online until just now when I got home from Mexico.
Anyway... I don't know what else to suggest other than what was said about reporting it to the police and then to Apple. Hopefully, Apple will have some guarantee program or insurance policy. I wish you luck. :)
Ireneparalegal 08-14-2007, 08:43 PM OMgosh Kristel, I wish there was something I could do. I feel so bad for you. When you work hard to pay for something and others feel they could just take it, really pisses me off. It's just not right.
freshprinceofLA 08-14-2007, 10:00 PM omg that sucks so much! I feel for you! I bring mine to school everyday I keep it in my pocket never in my backpack. You should keep it with you most of the time.
anyways I hope you get your ipod back good luck!
gidgetgrape 08-14-2007, 10:31 PM I'm sorry your Ipod was stolen. :( I didn't realize this was such a widespread problem until I saw the Dateline segment Irene mentioned.
Hollow 08-14-2007, 10:45 PM if you replace it, i would recommend getting a regular mp3 player. seriously, ipods are junk. mine, as well as those of MANY other people stopped functioning correctly as early as a few months after being purchased and treated very well. it's not worth it.

I agree here, Kristel. I recently purchased a 1GB RCA MP3 player. It works quite well, actually. They also have a 4GB, I believe. Plus, it plays video as well.
Number 9 Dream 08-14-2007, 11:37 PM Thanks, everyone...I actually bought a blue 4GB ipod Nano today, lol. I guess I should've waited. I only wanted something basic to take with me for walks at the track. Hopefully I can get something like I had before for Christmas.
Ireneparalegal 08-14-2007, 11:45 PM I'm sorry your Ipod was stolen. :( I didn't realize this was such a widespread problem until I saw the Dateline segment Irene mentioned.
So true. I had no idea. Yet, you think abt it, those iPods are like Kristel said, up to $500. My boyfriend bought me mine for Mother's Day and of course, I got the $300 + iPod. I carry that in my purse always. I am careful with it and never leave it laying around where anyone can get it.
It's a shame though, in your own home you shouldn't have to be hiding it, but obviously now you know you can't trust certain people.
That Dateline segment showed how low people are and what was crazy abt that segment was out of the 200-300 iPods that they had stolen, only ONE PERSON returned it to Dateline. And this was out of somewhere over 100 that they were able to trace. So you figure out of those 100 people Dateline confronted and told them they had a stolen ipod, only one returned it to Dateline. Many of the people received the ipod as a gift or bought it from someone, but most were the actual person who stole it. Dateline showed them the videotape of them in the process of stealing it.
RoryGilmore 08-15-2007, 12:06 PM Yeah, I have a thing where you can hook your ipod up to the radio and the usb to hook it up is in the glovebox and i just left it in there all the time then i saw the Dateline thing and came across this thread and I'm def. not leavin mine in the car anymore.
Chocoholic 08-15-2007, 01:01 PM I'm sorry you lost your iPod. It's a shame that so many people have so little respoect for other peoples' belongings. If someone really wants something like an iPod that badly, then they should just get a job and make the money to pay for it instead of stealing someone else's. I guess that's just too hard for a lot of people. Sad :( We've really gone downhill as a society and it's such a damn shame.
