Gilda Radner, may she rest in peace, did a WICKED imitation of Lucy on the early Saturday Night Live shows. In one sketch she had to put whipped cream and marischino cherries on plutonium bombs coming down an assembly line (modeled after the switching jobs episode). I also remember a show where Desi Sr. hosted and they did a skit with Gilda playing Lucy in a take off on the Untouchables. They rob a bank and all of a sudden Gilda as Lucy starts wailing "they shot Fred and Ethel"

I'm going to Google and find more details on these SNL sketches. Which were a hoot. Gilda always had me rolling on the floor. She was so funny a couple of times I almost wet myself.

I didn't watch a lot of SNL but that sure sounds funny.

Oh my god the early shows ('75-'80) were utterly brilliant. And among a cast of brilliant comediennes, Gilda outshone them all. She was just or almost as funny as Lucy. I highly recommend, of the SNL series, "The Best of Gilda Radner" as well as anything that captures the early years.
