Another in the long list of Marvel Comic creations is about to be entered into the big screen superhero genre, as "Thor" is set to be developed starting sometime this winter.

Picked to helm the project by Marvel Studios is Matthew Vaughn, who directed "Stardust," which was released in theaters today.

Thor is based on the Norse god legend who also had an evil brother Loki. He is also known for a powerful hammer he uses in combat.

Vaughn was originally chosen to direct X-Men 3 but had to back out due to personal reasons.

Marvel Studios has a $500 million credit war chest with Merrill Lynch, which will probably be the source of financing for the project. They've used the credit line to finance next years' "The Incredible Hulk" and "Iron Man."
