I just read yesterday that the new Complete Series Boxset includes a newly colorized version of "Lucy Goes to Scotland." I've just purchased the entire series in individual season boxsets, so I won't be forking over $200 for this one. But I would like to know how the new colorized job looks. The new "Lucy's REally Lost Moments" DVD from earlier this year includes some colorized footage of the Desilu Studio Tour and other appearance by Lucy and Desi, and IMO it looks great. It certainly looks a lot more realistic than the colorization that was done to the Christmas ep. back in 1990.

Shadycat - I can honestly say that Lucy Goes To Scotland is up there with the best work we've ever done. I guarantee you'll be amazed. This is one episode that Desi definitely wanted in color but apparenty the budget would not permit a color production. It now looks like it was shot in color. All sets and costumes, including all detailed plaids were precisely matched to color reference stills.

Me too, but not sure that there will be anymore. This particular episode was special because Desi wanted it to look precisely how it is now... in color, but also because this was essentially all a dream sequence lended lended itself to color.

There are other black and white TV series that are more compelling for color than Lucy.

Maybe someday! I know many people prefer to stick with B&W, but there is bound to be a huge market for a fully colorized "I Love Lucy" series.

I prefer ILL in color, but there is a market for that episode and the lost movie released on a single disc -- hint hint.

Is the whole entire/complete episode colorized or just the wraparound dream sequence? Could somebody please post the colorized scenes, as well as the opening and closing credits of "Lucy Goes to Scotland?" :)

Congratulations on your work on the first fully-colorized episode "Lucy Goes to Scotland." I can't wait to see it. I am really looking forward to it. Maybe you can answer a question for me that I have been wondering about for quite some time now. What did you use to match the "heart on satin" opening credits of the show? I am confusqed to what the original/actual colors were. Did they even have colors or were they originally in black and white? I've seen a few different versions and weren't sure if they were the true colors or if the one you currently did is the true color? I'll include pictures of them after the closing of this message. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I hate the Scotland episode, not even in color would I like it.

The Lucy in Scotland is my all-time fave but, I think colourisation is a form of vandalism, and even though its a Canadian invention, I want nothing to do with it!

( I remember the very first movies colourised were Laurel and Hardy films, not only did they look blurred and grainy, they gave Stan laurel brown hair and brown eyes, instead of the proper red hair and light blue eyes!* )

*When Stan Laurel started in silent film, they had a real problem because the early film emulsions couldnt catch the blue in his eyes, and he looked as if he had no irises !!! @.@

I CAN'T WAIT to see the colorized version!!! I've seen the recent colorization of the Desilu Studio Tour that was done as part of the Westinghouse sponsorship deal back in the late 50s, and it looks FANTASTIC! I think a top-notch colorization job would give the show a modernized look. Also, unlike later videotaped sitcoms, the "I Love Lucy" was recorded on 35mm film and can be converted to HD. Maybe one day we'll have the option of watching the entire series in fully colorized high definition!

Just out of curiosity, with the forthcoming first fully colorized episode of I Love Lucy coming out, what does everybody think the "heart on satin" look like? I mean, like what colors do you think the satin, heart, heart-outline & text/letters will be?

I'd love to see them colorize other I Love Lucy episodes. First, I'd like them to start off with colorizing Episode # 6 "The Audition." For reference, they can look at the 1951 onset color footage, taken by the audience member, that was one of the special features on the final season DVD. In addition, I'd love for them to redo the Christmas show the way it was intended/meant to be seen, with all of the flashback segments in color, as well as the wraparound segments. After that, I'd like to see them do the classic shows. If they were do do such a thing, they could take a poll/vote on if people would first want to see more fully colorized I Love Lucy Episodes, and if so, would they want to see all of the I Love Lucy episodes colorized, and if they did , would they buy the seasons all over again? Or, they can pick which episodes they'd like to see colorized. Personally, I'd love to see more of them, only if they were done the right way, though, with the correct color information on all costumes and sets, from either reference materials, sucj as original color photgraphs or home movie footage.

It makes you wonder what the "real" colors really were though. Here is what I mean. Unless you were a cast, crew and/or audience member, you couldn't tell what the original colors were, unless you were there. When the Christmas show was colorized, the Ricardo living room was a beige color, green furniture & like a turquoise/teal curtains hanging in the window. The kitchen were different shades of purple. Then, we see an original color photograph from the show, with Lucy & Ricky standing in front of the Christmas tree. The walls appear & curtains all appear to be in he purple family. Ten years later, the I Love Lucy 50th Anniversary Tour makes it's way across the country, with replicas/reproductions of the sets. This time around, the walls in the living room are like a coral/mauve/peach color & the furniture and curtains are in the blue family. The kitchen is now yellow. LOL :)

About five years after that, we get the Lucy's Really Lost Moments DVD, with the I Love Lucy cast on the Bob Hope Chevy Show. They do a skit on the Ricardo apartment set. This time around, the furniture is gray. ;) It just makes me wonder what it really was, you know and which one is the real deal and/or comes close. I mean, I wasn't too sure and didn't give it much thought with the Christmas Special colorization, but then when I saw the color Christmas picture, I was like, okay, this is the actual/original color. Then, when I visited the 50th anniversary tour, I read the plaques in front of each set and they said that what I was looking at was the original color scheme.

I'm not fond of the Scotland one, either. I mean, I know why they went with colorizing that one and all, but I feel that they should have let the I Love Lucy fans decide which episode for them to fully colorize. That way, some, if not all of us would be happy. I mean, don't get me wrong. I am grateful and all. I'd rather have this than nothing at all. They colorized this episode because it was originally supposed to be filmed in color. It was probably supposed to be filmed in color because of all the big production numbers, etc. But, I would have preferred to see colorized episodes featuring the Ricardo/Mertz apartment sets, as well as the Nightclub, Beverly Hills Palms Hotel room/suite, etc. Believe it or not, I am really enjoying seeing I Love Lucy in color. I'd love to see that colorized episode of "LA at Last," that was featured at one of the Loving Lucy conventions. I'd like to see both the original one shown at the convention, as well as a newly colorized one. I am going to have to go through the episodes and see which ones I'd like colorized the most.

Yes, I have seen the home movie footage that the audience member filmed. It wasn't a colorized tape. It was filmed in color, using color film. That is one of the episodes I'd like to see colorized.
