The show debuts on my birthday so there's another reason to celebrate. At least The Twilight Zone premiered on Oct 2nd as well so it's gonna be a real good day after all. ;)

I suggest Solomon whip out the VCR and record the show. This one might become a cult classic.

heck, I may tape this, who knows if we'll ever see it again. Probably a 'so bad, it's funny' type deal. I doubt we'll see a DVD release ever...

A sitcom about the freaking Geiko Gekko would have been a better idea.

Don't Worry, I have good news. You can save a bunch of money on your car insurance and get a free copy of Caveman, The Complete Series by switching to Geico. ;)

Where have you been seeing bad reviews of the show?

NY Post and MSNBC had quick reviews of the show. They both said it was really bad.

Here's one review from Aint It Cool News

“Cavemen” has a lot of people talking since it was first announced. People will continue to talk… about just how astoundingly awful it is.

“Cavemen” is literally a thirty second commercial expanded to twenty-two minutes. But… it’s actually much worse than that. Just like their source material, the origin of these domesticated Cro-Magnons is never explained. I guess “Encino Man” is part of the prequel trilogy. We meet these humanoids already fully integrated into society and living in a mid-west apartment with a bunch of Ikea furniture. Think about it, a show based on a commercial is bound to have a lot of product placement.

Now comes the most mind numbing, stupendously stupid and astoundingly misguided part of this fiasco: The creators have tried to infuse social satire by making the show an allegory for prejudice. They draw astoundingly leaden parallels to every minority group in the world without a laugh in sight. It’s jaw dropping horrendous and actually makes “American Dad's” lunkheaded topicality seem sophisticated.

The supposed “plot” of the pilot revolves around the Cavemen trying to crash an upscale country club, invoking the ad for the movie “Caddyshack”: “Some people just don’t belong.”

This pilot is slow, talky and dull… with the only real visual flourishes revolving around the Cavemen donning different costumes throughout the show in their bid to fit in.

Making matters worse: The pilot uses different actors in the Cavemen roles and none of them are nearly as effective as their advertising counterparts. One of them actually reminded me a little bit of Sanjaya.

This video will get passed around like the infamous “Star Wars Christmas Special.” It’s nice to know that the spirit of Ed Wood lives on.

Ironically, amidst the mad rush of script ABC developed this season was one of the funniest half hours I ever read… and they didn’t order THAT script in favor of this depth charge which could be the first pilot to actually hurt an auto insurance company.

Which also begs the point: Would Geico advertise on this thing? My guess is they'd pass.

Those reviews are for the old pilot. The new pilot is way different and will introduce the characters better. The original pilot felt like a regular episode, and it will air like for the 5th or 6th episode now.

This show is getting the most buzz...good or bad, but it will get sampled for the premiere, that's for sure. So the new pilot better be really good.

Usually when you have to reshoot a pilot after the show's been picked up, it isn't a good sign though.

Neither can I. I am sure there are sitcoms that came from an obscure idea, but from a commercial? I am sure the answer is zero!

True, but they must really believe in it or they wouldn't have picked it up in the first place. I think the premiere will do well. If the new pilot is good, most of the viewers might come back each week.

Another ABC bomb. Most TV analysts think this might be the first show canceled. It will get a big audience for its debut out of curiosity. After that people will stop watching, and the ratings will go down and down.

Be specific..."sitcom bomb," you mean, because their dramas are first class and do well...they found two more hits last season in Brothers & Sisters and Ugly Betty (MEN IN TREES and October Road did well, too). And have you seen these new sitcoms? You haven't seen Cavemen or Big Bang, so you can't play favorites until you watch them. I don't do that, and never did. I watch them before I make my judgments.

I thought the original Cavement pilot was OK...I have yet to see the updated one. It had its funny moments, but it could have been better, which looks like they are doing now. Big Bang is very good, but doesn't mean it will last, because last season the best sitcoms quality wise were The Class and Knights of Prosperity, and they are both gone. I hope Big Bang lasts and gets moved to 9:30.
The surprise in quality of the sitcom season is Carpoolers...surprisingly funny!

I don't think Cavemen will be the 1st to get canceled. It certainly has buzz...as you saw in the new poll. New Amsterdam was my pick to be canceled first, but Fox already shelved it for mid-season, before it even aired, lol. So, I'll go with NBC's Life.

ABC dramas are fine. It is their sitcoms that are a disaster. You tell me the last sitcom ABC brought to the air that was even close to a hit since 8 Simple Rules all the way back to 2002.

The buzz is a false buzz. It is a curiosity buzz, which is helped by the Geico commericials. It will get a great rating for its debut, and the ratings will dive and dive after people actually see the show. I have not been very far off on the ABC sitcoms. I was the one who said Knights of Prosperity was not going to make it when I saw the pilot last summer. I know you loved Knights, and you have a right to your opinion, but I knew it was not an appealing show. Cavemen is the same thing.

By the way, I have seen the Cavemen pilot and The Big Bang Theory pilot and The Big Bang Theory blows Cavemen away. Not even close in quality. Big Bang is very funny and Cavmen is plain stupid. Carpoolers I have not seen, but will give it a look. I think Samantha Who has a chance to be good. So maybe there is a little hope for an ABC sitcom.

You didn't say sitcoms before. I never said ABC has had a hit for a sitcom lately. But that doesn't mean the shows aren't good. ABC had According to Jim and George Lopez to help develop new sitcoms, while they are mild performers and decent shows, they weren't good shows to create new sitcoms out, that is why shows like Crumbs, Knights of Prosperity didn't really work. I really liked those, too. Hope & Faith was a good show, too...too bad it was on Fridays. It I consider a hit, since in its first season it did good, but dropped off after that in the ratings and in quality.

As for Cavemen, there is now an updated pilot that will tell the character stories more. So, let's hope that is better. I take it you never saw Dinosaurs in the '90s? If they can make it like that series, I'll be very happy. The new pilot will be key, if it is good, viewers will come back...if not, premiere will do well but subsequent episodes will fall. I'm dying to see the updated one.

Carpoolers is pretty damn funny. Samantha Who? is very interesting, but the pilot is not funny I think. But it will work, because you are interested in the story. Applegate will draw.

How did you get to see these pilots (Bang, Cavemen)? Illegal downloads, I'm guessing, lol?

My rankings quality wise for the new sitcoms:
1. Samantha Who? - Excellent
2. Carpoolers - Hilarious
3. Big Bang Theory - Very good
4. Back to You - OK
5. Cavemen - OK (based on original pilot)
6. Aliens in America - OK
(nothing terrible like Happy Hour)

My predictions ratings wise for the new sitcoms:
1. Samantha Who?
2. Big Bang Theory
3. Back to You
4. Cavemen
5. Carpoolers
6. Aliens in America

I think NCIS and Bones are going to pull the audience in the fall and if Cavemen happens to make it till midseason AI will probably destroy it. It's in a very competitive timeslot. I'll probably check it out at least once just to see what it is. If it isn't any good, ratings after the first episode will fall drastically.

I do apologize for not making myself clear. I mean that almost all new ABC sitcoms have been bombs for the past five years. I liked a couple like Hope and Faith, too, but the ratings were not there.

I do have high hopes for Samantha Who. As a matter a fact, I plan on watching the first three sitcoms on CBS on Mondays and then switching to ABC for Samantha Who. I do not like Rules of Engagement. As you say, I also like Christina Applegate. I did and will continue to watch most of the ABC bomb sitcoms. I watched most of them from Rodney to Jake In Progress, to Crumbs, Freddie, Help You Help Me, etc. I watched them all. I do plan on watching Cavemen and Carpoolers. However, it does not mean that the viewers in general will watch. They probably won't.

I am. The four new shows I'm looking forward to are Back to You, Cavemen, Aliens in America, and Life is Wild.Cavemen was a big disappointment. I like many others dropped Cavemen after the pilot episode and didn't come back. I liked Aliens in America and really liked Life is Wild and Back to You. That is another reason to hate Reba's premature cancellation, it would have given Life is Wild a lot stronger lead-in than the putrid rated shows they had Sundays in the 7PM hour that season (CW Now and Online Nation to start out). As far as the new shows from 2007 went though, most successful would end up being The Big Bang Theory but that wasn't evident at first with growing into hit status.
