Football season is coming up and I want to start recording games on DVD this season and want this DVD recorder just for the remainder of the year.

If you buy the cheapest model, it'll just blow out (stop working) in 3 months.

Lots of personal experience on that one.

Solomon, you cannot skimp on buying a dvd recorder. You buy cheap, you are going to get cheap. You have to buy the more expensive, but way more reliable brands like Sony or Panasonic.

Well that's the plan, I just want to be in the Sports Trading Circle this football season and not be excluded out because I can only record on VHS. So when I buy I'm already know I'm going to replace it in December or January. So what is the cheapest price?

I disagree; I bought a DVR (a DVD recorder that records onto a computer hard drive instead of a disc) 2 years ago for $200; and in all that time it's never given me any problems.

Except Brian wasn't talking about DVRs, he was talking about DVD Recorders. Some folks prefer their recordings be kept on some sort of physical media.

Hell, I've bought expensive models and they've died on me in a matter of months. So cheap/expensive...the major difference is probably picture.

Though I would stay away from one that's only 30 bucks. Eek. That probably would die after one game. I've never owned one that liked recording constantly for more than 2 hours, so a $30 may actually combust.

And both I bought - same manufacturer, both bought from Wal-Mart...both went kaboom exactly six weeks after I bought it.

(Of course, I did have a Panasonic go boom after eight weeks, but it was a low end model, and I'm pretty sure the malfunction was actually myfault.)

Don't get me wrong, my cheap dvd recorder still works, it's just basically outdated. It can't record on any discs above 8x and I found out that 8x is no longer made.

My old one was like that, and it wouldn't take a firmware upgrade. Guess if they don't make 8x anymore, it's okay that it died.

Same here. For anyone who's shopping around, stay away from anything named Cyberhome. It's not worth your money at ALL.

My mom and dad got my a dvd/Tape recorder and hard drive recorded for my birthday. it does tapes to. I think they only paid $200 doallors.they got it on sale. it was $300 doallors or 400 doallors. I don't remeber. I like it you can tape stuff on the hard drive. you can fast forward or pause.
