There have been many comparisons between LHOP and the Waltons. Some storylines and themes were "borrowed" from the Waltons series and used on LHOP four or more years later.

A Waltons episode I saw today reminded me of that:

John wanted to take John-Boy on his first hunt. John-Boy, a writer, didn't want to kill anything because he was "sensitive." He couldn't bring himself to tell his Daddy. On the hunt, John was attacked by a bear. John-Boy became a man and pulled the trigger.

Isaiah wanted to take John Jr. on his first hunt. John Jr., a writer, didn't want to kill anything because he was "sensitive." He couldn't bring himself to tell Isaiah. On the hunt, Isaiah was attacked by a bear. Then the story becomes different. John Jr. stood and watched Isaiah get mauled.

Maybe if Isaiah was his real Pa, John Jr. would have pulled the trigger! ;)

I know that many stories/scripts are used by other networks/studios. I know we can make a list of sitcoms that seemed to borrow storylines from other shows.

Laura taught sign language to the deaf boy in that one episode (one of many that I don't like).

In the Waltons, Mary Ellen taught sign language to that deaf girl that is abandoned at the Walton home. (one of my fave episodes)

I've always said THANK GOD John, Jr. dumped Mary. She was MUCH better
off without that spineless, two-timing wimp! Even while blind, I believe
Adam would've at least TRIED to do something-not just stand and watch
while his adoptive father was getting mauled by a bear.
