It's in the closing credits where the paintings are from. Ernie Banks was the Artist, i'm not sure if he is the only one

It was Ernie Barnes, who also did some of Marvin Gaye's album covers. You will see the same style on the albums as the paintings on the show.

I have always wondered why JJ didn't try to go into animation. He would have made a lot of more money than trying to sell those paintings. Cartoons were big in the 70's
With that talent he could have gotten a scholarship. With a grant, the money left over after art supplies, books and tuition he could help pay a bill, buy groceries or help out a neighbor so they wont have to eat dog food.
