In the Dennis the Menace TV series, Mr. Wilson was originally portrayed by Joseph Kearns from the show's first three seasons. After Kearns died unexpectedly, he was replaced by Gale Gordon for the show's fourth and final season.

Why didn't the show cast Gale Gordon as Mr. Wilson when the series came about? Gordon had a striking resemblance to Mr. Wilson from the comic strip, whereas Kearns had not. Even though Kearns was great as Mr. Wilson, he didn't look anything like his comic strip counterpart.

Would the series still last for four seasons if they had cast Gordon as Mr. Wilson instead of Kearns. What do you think?

Ill agree that GG looked the part...he was a marvelous actor, especially playing grumps ( like mr Mooney )...id certainly have liked him as George Wilson....mind you, his almost British accent might have seemed out of place
