I've always wondered that myself, I did read an article once that reflected the play that the cast once did , in the article it did state that at the time Helen and Tom were making less than the kids on different strokes, and they then asked for a raise... but I never heard about George or Louise's pay

I saw Isabel and Sherman on Vickie Lawren's talk show back in the 90's and they said they didn't negotiate for more money on the show when it was a hit like they should have.

On Different Strokes Garry was always on strike every year for more money and that was his parents doing.

I know because they felt he was the star of the show.

Tom and Helen on the Jeffersons were only seen occassionally so I'm not sure how much money they thought they would be making

Isabel & Sherman were earning in the neighborhood of $60,000 per episode around the 3rd or 4th season. By the time the series ended in 1985, I remember reading an article that Isabel Sanford was making $200,000 per episode (she had read that "One Day At A Time" star Bonnie Franklin was making as much before "Time" ended in 1984, and "The Jeffersons" was doing better in the ratings at that time, so she demanded a higher salary.)

For obvious reasons, no one likes to discuss their pay in public, but I can assure you, any actor who has starred in a long-running series has made a nice sum of cash over the years. As early as the mid-1970s, actors started seeing their salaries increase. Actors like Carroll O'Connor and Alan Alda demanded huge increases in the mid-1970s when their series were hits ("All in the Family" and "M*A*S*H*").

As for Sanford, she lived in a very nice house on the edge of Bel-Air next door to Lisa Marie Presley of all people. That exclusive section of Los Angeles has homes in the multiple of millions. Sanford also had homes in Atlanta and elsewhere. So, she wasn't hurting financially.

On the contrary, Sherman Hemsley reportedly lost much of his wealth due to bad investments.
